Is abortion ever necessary to “save the life of the mother”?

Is abortion ever necessary to “save the life of the mother”?

It’s dropped on the daily basis: Abortion should be legal except in cases where the life of the mother is threatened by the pregnancy. But should it?

Politicians who do not affirm the legitimacy of abortion under these circumstances are written off as straight-up lunatics. Who could be so callous, opponents ask, as to deny life to a pregnant woman whose life is threatened by her pregnancy? The truth is, there is one massive misconception about the “life of the mother” exception. That is the belief that abortion is sometimes necessary to save the life of the mother.

The abortion procedure is not – ever – necessary to save the life of a mother. There are, however, maternal health risks that require a treatment that cause the unfortunate, indirect, and unintentional death of an unborn child. For instance, in life-threatening ectopic pregnancies that require removal of a Fallopian tube, the pregnancy (including the unborn child) will be removed along with the Fallopian tube. The intention in this procedure is first and foremost to save the life of the mother, and in order to do so, a physician must perform a procedure that indirectly causes the death of her unborn child.

This is not an abortion. Furthermore, a true abortion – in which the direct intention is to end the life of a human being – is not a treatment for any type of maternal health risk. The death of a baby never saves his or her mother; procedures that may lead to a child’s death save the life of the mother.

The Association of Pro-Life Physicians, whose mission is to practice pro-life medical ethics as the only legitimate means of living out the do no harm clause of the Hippocratic Oath, clarified the subject with the following statement, which can be found within its broader context here:

Retired abortionist says pro-life movement, abortion stigma stronger than ever

Retired abortionist says pro-life movement, abortion stigma stronger than ever

OCTOBER 2

Abortion is not popular among the medical community.

Abortion is not popular among the medical community.

On September 29, Live Action writer Cassy Fiano talked about an article in which late term abortionist Susan Robinson said that abortion providers deal with a lot of stigma from other doctors.

Robinson is not the only abortionist who has discussed the stigma that abortionists face. The pro-abortion website Jezebel also addressed the issue in an interview with retired abortionist, Dr. Robert Livingston.

Livingston has been involved in the abortion industry for over 45 years. Before Roe v. Wade, he performed illegal abortions. When Roe was decided, he simply hung up his shingle and began practicing legally. This was a common phenomenon – often the same abortionists who did back alley abortions simply performed legal ones after Roe.

Price Controls to Ration Cancer Drugs

By Wesley J. Smith

QALYs2reI always say: If you want to see where things will go wrong next in society, read the professional journals.

An article published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology advocates that the government set a “just price” for all cancer drugsFrom the article (my emphasis):

Finally, we must challenge the status quo that sets drug prices arbitrarily without regard to the real value of a drug.

Assuming the government should have the power to dictate price–a problematic proposal, at best–how to do that? Quality of life!

The value of a new cancer drug should be measured by one of several parameters: one, improving survival or PFS [“progression-free survival”–how long a patient lives before his cancer worsens] (particularly important as an early surrogate end point for indolent tumors); two, improving quality of life; three, reducing/alleviating adverse effects compared with similar approved drugs or reducing toxicities of cancer drugs; and four, reducing cost.

To that end, we propose a value-based system for setting the initial price. Providers, regulators, patients and advocates, representatives of insurance and pharmaceutical companies, and other interested parties should all be involved in the discussion of initial pricing. The benefit quantified for FDA drug approval should be integral to drug pricing. Drug pricing could involve established measures of CE, life-years, or QALYs.

Abortion is not a Social Issue

Abortion is not a Social Issue

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director, Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

Maria Gallagher

Maria Gallagher

Labeling something as a “social issue” conveys the idea that it has to do with your social life — having fun, enjoying life, being in the company of others in a spirit of friendship.

That is not abortion.

Abortion is the taking of an innocent human life. It is an unnatural event which leaves a mother to grieve a child who can never, ever be replaced. The collateral damage of this tragedy can be felt by fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, and uncles.

Abortion is not a social issue. It is a human rights issue. Data compiled by the Guttmacher Institute, the former research arm of the abortion giant Planned Parenthood, along with the Centers for Disease Control, indicate that more than 55 million abortions have occurred in the U.S. since Roe v. Wade, the tragic 1973 Supreme Court decision which allowed abortion’s legalization.

Ending this monumental catastrophe is the greatest civil rights issue of these 21st century times. For the sake of all the victims, please do not call it a “social issue.” Doing so only seeks to diminish the significance of their lives, and to trivialize the grief suffered by those left behind.

We must mobilize as many pro-life Americans as possible

Susan B. Anthony List
Pro-life Friend –

I just got off a conference call with one of our top pro-life leaders in the House regarding the government shut down and the efforts of pro-lifers in the House to stop Obamacare.

His message to me and other pro-life leaders was clear:

We must mobilize as many pro-life Americans as possible to contact Washington and demand an end to taxpayer-funded abortion in Obamacare.

I told him we would do exactly that. What I didn’t tell him is that we’re running on fumes financially.

That’s where you come in.

Donate $10, $25, $50, or even $100 or more right now: The more money we raise, the more Americans we can mobilize, and the more pressure we can put on Congress and President Obama.

As you know, the SBA List has been sounding the alarm about taxpayer funding of abortion in Obamacare from the very beginning. And now that Obamacare is being implemented (the exchanges just opened today), we’ve been uncovering specific examples of how Obamacare funds abortion.

In fact, the SBA List’s education and research arm, the Lozier Institute, did extensive research showing that upwards of 111,000 abortions PER YEAR could be subsidized with our tax dollars through Obamacare. This groundbreaking research was picked up by both the National Review and Drudge Report, and we’ve been aggressively circulating it to Members of Congress and their staffs.

Our pro-life leaders in the House have listened and are taking bold action. They are demanding that abortion funding in Obamacare is stopped in the Continuing Resolution or debt ceiling fights.

Meanwhile, the SBA List is mobilizing tens of thousands of activists across the country to contact Congress and show that we have the backs of our pro-life champions. But we must do more, and we need to do it now as this fight heats up.

Make an emergency donation of $10, $25, $50, or even $100 or more right now so we can keep up the pressure to end taxpayer funding of abortion in Obamacare.

I always like to be honest with SBA List members on our financial situation.

And I can tell you right now, our war chest is running low at the worst time.

Now is the time when we need to be digging in our heels and fighting even harder, not retreating because we don’t have enough funding.

Generations of unborn babies and their mothers are counting on us right now in this moment.

Please, give generously right now as we fight to expose taxpayer funding of abortion in Obamacare… and stop it.

I’ll be sure to keep you updated, and continue to know that your SBA List is fighting this tooth and nail.

For Life,

Marjorie Dannenfelser
President, Susan B. Anthony List

PS: Remember, every little bit helps. Whether it’s $5, $10, or $25, your donation goes a long way in ensuring the SBA List has the resources it needs to fight abortion funding in Obamacare. We’ve been fighting for years, and are at a critical moment in this battle. Now is not the time to have our war chest running low. Generations of unborn babies and their mothers are counting on us in this very moment. We cannot let them down.

“Fetuses don’t get choices,” admits pro-abortion Internet commenter

“Fetuses don’t get choices,” admits pro-abortion Internet commenter

SEPTEMBER 30

000fiona

We have a new feature on the New Wave Feminists Facebook page: every Friday is #FionaFriday. Our fearless leader Destiny adds a new quote to Fiona the Feminist Fetus’s little fetal thought bubble, and so far it has provoked a lot of discussion. And a lot of trolls.

The NWF page is intended as an online meeting place for the like-minded (pro-life feminists), rather than a place where we have to constantly defend our beliefs from a barrage of angry fauxminists. We get enough of that in real life.

But something about the recent Fiona image, pictured above, drew the haters out of the woodwork, and had Destiny blocking and deleting ugly comments.

One such comment Des sent to me with the following message: “I found it very intriguing… She straight up outlines how [abortion is] the most extreme form of oppression known to human kind…”

Here were the commenter’s words:

No such thing as a feminist fetus. Fetuses don’t get choices. They don’t have sentience or self-awareness. In order to have a choice, much less make a choice, you need to have sentience and experience self-awareness. At best this image just makes for good stand-up comedy.

My first thought when I read this was: what good is self-awareness if it doesn’t stop you from killing children?

7 illogical things pro-choicers said

7 illogical things pro-choicers said

OCTOBER 1

1) Even though the fetus is “alive,” it has yet to “live.”

antichoicescreencaps:An anti-choice graphic. The misinformation in this graphic concerns me deeply. The size representations of the models do appear to be fairly accurate, but it may interest those that desire to take away the freedom of choice to learn that at seven weeks, an embryo (as it is still classified as one at seven weeks) has something that resembles a tail and little blobs for limbs. It does not have tiny, fully-formed features that resemble a newborn baby, as all of these models do. Despite the choice to use the word “baby”, none of these models are of babies; they are all of embryos and fetuses. This graphic is clearly designed to appeal to vulnerable womens’ emotions in order to persuade them to make choices based on someone else’s morals, and that is truly deplorable on the part of the creator of this image. Additionally, it is not possible to ‘murder’ something that has yet to live. In a purely scientific sense, the fetus is ‘alive’, but it has not achieved personhood. It does not have any rights until it is born, and in the meantime, it is residing in someone else’s uterus. The owner of the uterus in question is entirely within her rights to terminate her pregnancy if she does not want to allow a fetus to use her body for nine months. Be responsible for the choices you make; be sure to fully explore all of your options in regards to reproductive healthcare and choose the one that is best for you, and before you decide to tell someone else what to choose, consider that you have no authority over their body. A culture of choice is a culture of love, where human beings can respect one another even if they do not personally agree with each others’ life choices. Instead of utilizing manipulation to force women into situations they do not want to be in, embrace your fellow living, sentient human beings and show your love by always putting them first.

In response to this pro-life graphic, a pro-choicer wrote:

[I]t is not possible to ‘murder’ something that has yet to live. In a purely scientific sense, the fetus is ‘alive’, but it has not achieved personhood. …

Ok, wait, wait, wait – is this person really arguing that, even if you’re alive, you’re not living (i.e., you’re not really alive)? Even though the definition of alive is: “living: living, especially still living, and not dead”?

I do realize that some pro-choicers believe that there are other reasons why abortion is not murder (I’ve never heard a valid one), but arguing that the baby has “yet to live” is the most illogical I’ve heard.  If you’d like to read why a supposed lack of “personhood” is also not a good reason to support abortion, please see this excellent article.

Online for Life celebrates ‘Women’s Rights Week’

Online for Life celebrates ‘Women’s Rights Week’

OCTOBER 1

OFL

Online for Life, a pro-life organization that maximizes Internet search capabilities to lead abortion-minded men and women to life-affirming alternatives, announced Monday that it will be celebrating Women’s Rights Week from September 29 through October 5. The celebration is a social media undertaking. Supporters are invited to tweet using the hashtag #WomensRights and change their profile pictures on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to the below image:

Organizers at Online for Life described the event on Facebook, saying the following:

This week, we will share that we are not only pro-life, we are also pro-woman. And in a society that so narrowly ties child birth solely to women’s rights, it’s important that together we share that abortion affects more than just the child’s mother — while respectfully acknowledging that the mother, and every woman in society is impacted by abortion, whether they realize it or not.

We hope to leave this week with all women feeling empowered, and making it known that OFL stands strongly WITH women, before and after birth, in the fight for LIFE.

Rap Song’s Amazing Message: “Mommy Am I in Your Womb or Swimming in My Grave?”

Rap Song’s Amazing Message: “Mommy Am I in Your Womb or Swimming in My Grave?”

by Christina Martin | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 9/27/13 3:45 PM

The last words of the rap are chilling:

“But if I’m inside of you why do I feel miles away, Am I really in your womb or just swimming in my grave?”

Brandon Kagel was born into a Jewish family as a triplet with two sisters and an older brother. This Phoenix, Arizona native is now a devoted husband and father of two. Brandon is also a rapper who goes by “The Rep.” Brandon’s first project titled “Street Prophecy” was released in 2001. He toured across the U.S drawing fans from the gospel industry as well as the secular.

I found Brandon online when I stumbled upon a rap video about abortion. The video titled, “13th floor” is a heart rending poem spoken from the perspective of an unborn baby.

“Mommy, I’m only five weeks old but I can feel my heart.  The doctor says I’ll see you in November but were still in March. By the way Mommy, what the doctor says is a lie; you don’t have to worry my body’s developing just fine. So please tell Daddy that he doesn’t have to cry no more. Jesus finished with my brain; he’s working on my spinal cord.

Brian got the inspiration for his poem through an experience with his wife. Years ago his wife came home weeping loudly after volunteering at Crisis Pregnancy Center. Brian feared she’d gotten in an accident or was hurt. To his surprise his wife was sobbing because she saw a video of an abortion procedure for the first time.
