Women’s March 129 times More Networks Coverage Than March for Life

NRL News Today

By Katie Yoder

Editor’s note. This is excerpted from a post at Newsbusters.

It’s called adding insult to injury: pro-life women (and men) have not only been rejected by the Women’s March on Washington but also by the liberal media.

This month, two similar events are happening in Washington, D.C. Both pertain to women. One attracted an estimated 500,000 Americans this year, the other boasts tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands marchers every year. But one main difference – a difference the media care about – is agenda: one is pro-abortion, the other is pro-life.

During their morning and evening news shows, the three broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) covered the women’s march 129 times more than they did the 2016 March for Life last year. And it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not they will cover the 2017 March for Life Friday.

Held the day after the inauguration, the women’s march brought hundreds of thousands together (millions worldwide) to tell the new administration that “women’s rights are human rights.” Except, according the march’s pro-abortion platform and its behavior towards pro-life organizations, “women” doesn’t include all women. That became even clearer when organizers removed pro-life group New Wave Feminists from its partner list.

As the largest annual march in Washington, D.C., the March for Life laments abortion and celebrates human life on or around the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

ABC, CBS and NBC spent at least one hour, 15 minutes and 18 seconds on the women’s march. But for the 2016 March for Life, they devoted an embarrassing 35 seconds (22 seconds following the march, 13 before).

Before the women’s march even happened, the network news shows had devoted nearly 23 minutes to the event.

The networks first advertised the women’s march this year beginning on Jan. 6. NBC Today host Matt Lauer commented on an “embarrassing mistake” by the Washington Post’s Express for placing the male symbol on its cover for the women’s march.

By Jan. 19, all three networks had covered the women’s march, with NBC correspondent Stephanie Gosk predicting a “sea of pink” (a reference to women marchers planning to wear pink hats to protest President Donald Trump) at the march during Nightly News.

Even up until Tuesday morning, CBS covered the march by playing clips of late-night hosts talking about the protest during This Morning’s “eye openers.”

On Jan. 23, following the march, CBS This Morning still touted the event, with co-anchor Norah O’Donnell commenting that “Organizers of the women’s marches are taking steps to transform the energy from the weekend protest into action.” Her colleague, Charlie Rose added, “Could it take – begin there and become something larger in terms of the empowerment of women in terms of the whole range of issues that are crucial for women and their place and their opportunity to participate in the world that we live in?”

That same day, during Evening News, CBS anchor Scott Pelley called the marches “extraordinary” and wanted to know, “So, what happens next?”

Echoing CBS, ABC anchor David Muir asked about the march during World News Tonight “Can they sustain the momentum turning those marches into a movement?”

Not once did a network news show mention the exclusion of pro-life women from the women’s march. And while ABC, CBS and NBC hyped the march, multiple news shows blurred words on the signs the marchers carried because of the vulgar language on them.

Of the broadcast networks, ABC was the only one to report on the 2016 March for Life. In a casual reference to last year’s January blizzard, Good Morning America reported on a “group of high schoolers trying to get back to Kentucky after visiting D.C. for the March for Life.” That mention amounted to 22 seconds.

For that same show, the morning of Jan. 22, co-anchor George Stephanopoulos on the March for Life “set to take place today, despite the storm warnings” with an expected “tens of thousands” to “protest abortion.” That amounted to 13 seconds, or 35 seconds total. …

NewsBusters analyst Curtis Houck contributed to this report.

So How Will The Media Cover This Year’s March for Life?

NRL News Today

By Dave Andrusko

In less than two days, a crowd of at least 100,000–and more likely several multiples of 100,000–will arrive in our nation’s capital for the annual March for Life. As a grassroots type, I put equal stock in the valiant work of all those brave souls, whether they travel to Washington, DC, or attend their state and local rallies.

A perennial question is will the media notice that we are even here? There is reason to believe that contrary to the pitiful network coverage of the 2016 March for Life, this year’s annual pilgrimage from the Mall to the Supreme Court will garner appreciably more attention. Here’s why.

Starting with the most obvious, the March is a not-so-silent protest of the 1973 Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions that ignited a firestorm of resistance. Pro-life President Donald Trump, more than any of his pro-life predecessors, has flatly stated his nominees to the Supreme Court will be pro-life.

Roe and Doe were absurdly reasoned. They were grounded in non-sense, “penumbras” and “emanations” which Justice Harry Blackmun convinced himself were lurking unbeknownst somewhere in the interstices of Constitution.

But justices less wedded to results-oriented jurisprudence–finding what you want to find to justify the outcome you want to deliver all along–will look with less favor. On Tuesday, Mr. Trump said he would announce his nominee to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia next week.

What else? No one over the age of 5 believes you can shame the “legacy media” (primarily the heavyweight newspapers and ABC/NBC/CBS) into fair coverage. But because they paid such massive (and uncritical) attention to last Saturday’s pro-abortion, anti-Trump “Women’s March,” perhaps lurking in the back of their minds is the thought they should do something more than the absolute minimum.

Moreover, because they paid some attention to pro-life feminists who were rejected by the organizers of the Women’s March, newspapers and networks might use that as a hook to write (as they always do, but more) about the handful of pro-abortionists who will greet the March for Life on the steps of the Supreme Court.

Also, there are more disparate groups than ever who are part of the March for Life. The coalition has always been broader than the media acknowledges, but that is truer than ever in 2017.

And nothing is more certain to interest reporters than (a) pro-lifers who tell them they did not vote for pro-life Donald Trump, which gives them an excuse to run still another story bashing the 45th President; and (b)the reemergence of the “seamless garment” argument that weaves the thread of opposition to abortion into a much, much larger fabric of issues.

Any other reasons? To return to what is on the national political agenda, the March for Life takes places just a few days after the House passed the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” and President Trump issued a Memorandum restoring the Mexico City policy. Intended to turn off the federal spigot, these are key moves early in his administration to stop public funding of abortion.

I hope that many of you reading NRL News Today will be in Washington, DC this Friday. If not, I hope you’ve been able to attend your local commemorative activities.

It is a wonderful time to be a champion of unborn children.

Men, It’s Time To Break Our Silence On The Slaughter Of The Unborn

Featured ImageShutterstock.com

Opinion,

Caleb Stephen

January 24, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) — I stumbled across a challenging quote from renowned abortion survivor Gianna Gessen the other day. Here it is:

“Men, you are made for greatness.  You are made to stand up and be men.  You are made to defend women and children, not stand by, and turn your head, when you know murder is occurring and do nothing about it.  You are not made to use women and leave us alone.  You are made to be kind and great and gracious and strong and stand for something because men, listen to me, I am too tired to do your job.”

To be quite frank, today’s generation of men are nothing more than a bunch of weak, spineless, irresponsible, selfish individuals who still need their mommas to pick up their dirty underwear off their bedroom floors. Of course there are the odd exceptions, but in general, todays men are nothing more than little boys. It’s sad but true.

Who do I see at pro-life rallies and who constitute a large percentage of the activists in the pro-life movement? Answer: women!

Of course childbirth is a woman’s thing. I’m not denying that. However, married men play an instrumental part in producing babies and even that aside, it is the responsibility of every man – regardless single or married – to ensure that women and children are protected and the rights of those who cannot speak for themselves are defended

I believe that one of the greatest tests for any man is whether he is willing to stand up for the lives of the innocent.

The fact that few men today care about this issue is very disturbing to me, yet is not in the least surprising given how this generation of boys is brought up. My parents instilled in me from a young age the ethos of serving and protecting the innocent and vulnerable from a very young age. For that, I am grateful. Sadly, this doesn’t happen in many homes today.

The famous German pastor, spy and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer once wisely said: “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

Wow! What powerful and challenging words.

Bonhoeffer wrote this at a time when millions of innocent Jewish men, women and children were being mercilessly tortured and exterminated under Adolph Hitler’s Nazi regime.

He saw the atrocities that were happening in his day and realized that it was his duty to stand up for the rights of the innocent and to advocate on their behalf.  Because if he didn’t, who would? He understood that to keep silent when evil is happening all around you is evil in itself.

Bonhoeffer’s words have relevant implications for today’s generation of men. Today’s issue is no longer that of Jews being wiped out by the Nazi totalitarian state; it’s the barbaric practice of abortion – the slaughter of precious unborn human life, which is happening at similar proportions. Many have called it the “modern holocaust” and rightly so.

Bonhoeffer was a one man army. Just one man standing up against evil. A man who was determined to right a great wrong and to face the consequences for doing that which is right. A man who was determined to fulfil his role as a man: “to serve and protect.”

The silence from guys who know the truth about abortion is absolutely deafening. Their silence does not whisper, it cries out loud and indicts these very individuals who are more concerned about their self-esteem and pride than the rights of unborn human beings.

Do they not have the heart of God that they would let such despicable atrocities continue in society? We live in a generation that prides itself in enlightenment towards social justice issues, but somehow abortion isn’t one of them.  This silence, this apathy, this depraved indifference is nothing at all to be proud of. Instead it’s a badge of shame and dishonour.

The incredible silence on this issue speaks volumes about 21st century Christendom and the state of our culture in general. We have seen the very image of God – His beautiful and perfect creation – debased to the category of a sub-human species. We have also seen the devastating effect of silence in the face of these evils. We have seen this all too many times in the past when cultures and societies have allowed a lie to redefine the value and worth of a human person.

To think that those who have been redeemed by the blood of Christ and have so much in terms of Bible knowledge yet are silent in an hour that demands intervention and action, is just mind-boggling.

Click “like” if you are PRO-LIFE!

What happened to God’s command to intervene and advocate on the behalf of the poor, the vulnerable and the innocent? Unborn babies fit that bill. Why is God’s directive to His followers being ignored?

I believe this apathy or depraved indifference has a lot to do with the fact that modern Christianity has created the concept of comfort zones. It’s all well and good to feed and clothe the poor because generally you won’t receive repercussions for doing so.  But when you touch the abortion issue, you open yourself up to be criticised, attacked, abused, threatened with death and even jailed for daring to speak up and stand up for these innocent lives. You step out of your comfort zone and that’s something many men aren’t willing to do.

But abortion is too important an issue to be silent on. God’s heart is grieved when no one is willing to stand up for His creation – your fellow human beings who are entitled to the same protection and rights as you! Everything you go through in the fight to save human life is totally worth it.

Let me use an example here. Let’s say that you’re jogging through a park one day and you see a girl being attacked by a sexual predator. As a decent human being, we’d all hope that you would stop and render assistance, right? You would not simply pass on by and act as if you saw nothing happen. You would instead be calling for help and making an effort at intervention. Any decent man would be enraged at the thought of rape, pedophilia, human slavery and child molestation.

The merciless cold-blooded massacre of innocent unborn lives is on that very same level. Tens of thousands of precious little ones are systematically murdered around the globe every single day. Just as you would be enraged at the thought of 6 million Jews being murdered by Hitler or a little child being molested by some pedophile, so should you at the very real slaughter of unborn babies that is happening right now. Their blood cries out from the ground for justice!

Friends, the hour is dark, yet this crucial moment in the history of the world presents the perfect opportunity for you to examine your commitment to God as one of His ambassadors representing His love for all of humanity and resolving to fight everything that He considers as unjust.

The question for is you is “will you stand up?” Will you resolve today to do your bit to put an end to this gross injustice? Will you?

“Mary Kills People” Trades Comforting Fantasy For The Reality of “Assisted Deaths”

NRL News Today

By Dave Andrusko

Caroline Dhavernas stars in the new Global TV show Mary Kills People. (CORUS ENTERTAINMENT)

Caroline Dhavernas stars in the new Global TV show Mary Kills People. (CORUS ENTERTAINMENT)

When anti-life forces talk about “normalizing” their agenda, a key component is persuading an already receptive entertainment industry to portray aborting children or “assisting” people to die in the most favorable possible light.

Enter “Mary Kills People”–and no, I am not making this up. It is a new series, debuting tomorrow on Global Television , about an “angel of mercy.” ( I didn’t know what Global TV is, either–it’s a “Canadian English-language broadcast television network.”)

If you read the snap summary on the Global TV site, it begins thusly:

Dr. Mary Harris has a secret – beneath the surface of being an ER doctor and loving mother, Mary is also Dr. Death, helping terminal patients end their lives. She and her partner Des have been operating covertly for almost six months but a series of unforeseen circumstances, beginning with the assisted death of superstar football player Troy Dixon (Adrian Holmes) goes wrong, conspire to tear Mary down.

(“Conspire to tear Mary down”? After she merely “assists” someone to die. How judgmental.) After that the usual soap opera storylines.

To get a feel for the series, go to the Facebook page for “Mary Kills People.” In a very short clip, you see Mary smoking a cigarette and then saying to no one in particular, “I really have to quit.” Some guy responds, “Killing people?”

To which Mary angrily answers, “No, smoking.” The man [sarcastically? Ironically? Apologetically?] responds, “Oh no, yeah, you’re right. Sure, it’s a filthy habit.”

I first ran across a mention of the show today at The Toronto Star where Bill Brioux gushes over how clever it all is.

Brioux tells us

The series is about a single mother, Mary Harris, who is an ER doctor by day, an angel of mercy by night. In her illegal side gig, Mary kills terminally ill patients she helps slip away on their own terms.

Of course all the deaths in this six-part series are sought by hospice patients, although the graphic that accompanies the promo doesn’t send that message at all. It is nothing short of menacing.

These stories (ala “Law and Order”) may be ripped from the headlines but if so, they didn’t read the stories. The (typically) nurses who are killing vulnerable patients offer the usual rationalizations but they are killing them not because they are “asked” but because of twisted, demented reasons of the killer’s own.

What fascinates Brioux begins with the origins of the series:

Tara Armstrong developed the idea for the series while still a student at the University of British Columbia.

“I don’t know why exactly, but I was always obsessed with death when I was younger, when I was a kid,” Armstrong said late last year while on location in Mississauga, Ont., with the cast and producers.

Armstrong was working on a writing degree at UBC and developed Mary Kills People in a creative non-fiction class. “I chose to go into a hospice and interviewed all the people who worked in there; it kind of came from that,” she says.

Does the choice of Dr. Harris’ first name mean anything?

The name “Mary” was a starting point. “I knew I wanted a biblical name,” says Armstrong.

Leave it to the death peddlers to cover their tracks with a “biblical name.”

What A Wild Ride We’re On!

January 25, 2017
Dear Friend,
Donald Trump has been the President of the United States for less than one week, and it’s been a wild ride!  The past year has been filled with controversy, rhetoric and disharmony, and none of that has abated since the inauguration only 5 short days ago. Here’s my recap on a few things:

1.   Last October, a tape of crude and inappropriate comments made about women by Donald Trump was released.  It was disgusting and horrifying.  Women were outraged!  Yet what a double standard many of those women have!  This past Saturday, marches about women’s rights were held around the country in supposed protest about Donald Trump’s disregard for women, yet he hadn’t been in office 24 hours, and the behavior and signage of many of the march participants was much more crude and disgusting than what was revealed by the tape of Donald Trump.  How hypocritical! The speakers and the march participants did not show much regard for being women, and actually CELEBRATED the legality of killing an unborn child.   What did they think they accomplished by this march?  The women’s march certainly didn’t represent me!

2.  One of President Trump’s first actions this week was to reinstate the Mexico City Policy, which effectively stops U.S. funding of abortion to international locations.  Hallelujah!   The only negative here is that there is an exception to rape, incest and fetal anomalies in this policy, and that needs to be changed.

3.  HR7 was passed by Congress this week and now goes to the Senate. No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act (HR 7), introduced by Rep. Chris Smith, R-NJ, makes permanent the so-called Hyde Amendment. Thus far the amendment, which prohibits federal money from being used to fund abortions through Medicaid, has been subject to annual renewal. The bill also removes funding from Obamacare. The BAD thing about this bill is that it also has exceptions for rape, incest and fetal anomalies that need to be removed.  Contact your senator to support this bill, but REMOVE THE EXCEPTIONS!

I do have more hope for the future than ever before with the election of our new president, but I’m not taking it for granted.   Watch for updates here soon about what you can do to make a difference.
In the meantime, pray for all of us who will be going to Washington DC this Friday to march for women’s rights, born and unborn, at the March for Life.
Our work goes on.

For Life,
Denise Leipold

Executive Director

Thank you!

A big thank you to Bishop Murry from the Diocese of Youngstown!

Since we serve Portage County (which is in the diocese of Youngstown), we were requested by the diocese to take part in a pro-life expo held last Saturday by the diocese in Canton.  At the mass celebrated by Bishop Murry, he bestowed a special blessing on all of us who will be attending the March for Life in Washington, DC.  We met many wonderful people at the expo, and will also be participating at the expo this coming Sunday in Youngstown, weather permitting and we don’t get stuck in Washington!

The REAL Truth…

American Life League’s video entitled
“Who Was the Real Margaret Sanger?”
will air on EWTN this week!
Thursday, January 26, at 10:00 a.m. EST

Saturday, January 28, at 6:00 p.m. EST.

Who Was the Real Margaret Sanger? unmasks the contraceptive mentality and Planned Parenthood’s racist and eugenic roots. This is an excellent video to watch in light of all the publicity that Planned Parenthood has received over the last week.

The Only Number That Matters

Ohio Right to Life

Friend —

Every January, in the dead of winter, often facing blizzards and negative windchills, hundreds of thousands of pro-life people travel to Washington D.C. to protest one of the darkest decisions ever rendered by the United States Supreme Court: Roe v. Wade.

As you undoubtedly know, over the weekend, the media breathlessly reported the major crowd sizes at the Women’s March, a march that claimed to stand for “diversity” and “inclusivity” but rejected the partnership of pro-life feminist and student groups. Unsurprisingly, Planned Parenthood was the March’s biggest sponsor. (Read this great article from The New York Times about the divisiveness of the Women’s March).

Despite all of this talk about numbers and crowd sizes, we are called to remember that the only number that really matters this January is 60 million–60 million innocent human lives who have been lost to Roe v. Wade over the last 44 years.

Devastatingly, this number outpaces the Women’s March and the March for Life in strides. Remembering this number should compel us all to take a stand and join the March for Life this Friday. (Luckily, this year’s weather is promising a balmy high of 43 degrees and perhaps some sunshine!)

Afterwards, there are multiple March for Life receptions being hosted by Ohio’s pro-life Senator and Congressmen! Join us for some food, refreshments and pro-life conversation after the March! (Details below.)

Don’t miss this opportunity to speak out against the greatest human rights violation of our time! Forty-four years is too long. March with us against this inhumane practice and for the dignity of every human life!

Ban on Taxpayer Funding for Abortions Overseas

Ohio Right to Life

Pres. Trump reinstates ban on taxpayer funding for abortions overseas
Trump Admin. advances pro-life policies ahead of the March for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
     CONTACT: Katherine Franklin
DATE: Monday, January 23, 2017     PHONE: 614-547-0099 ext. 304

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Today, one day after the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning taxpayer funding for abortions overseas. What is known as the “Mexico City Policy” was originally established by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. President Obama infamously rescinded the policy when he took office in 2009. The reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy could affect foreign pro-abortion groups like the International Planned Parenthood Federation, which operates in 180 countries.
“After eight years of Barack Obama’s pro-abortion policies, pro-life Americans are relieved to finally see their taxpayer dollars being safeguarded again,” said Mike Gonidakis, president of Ohio Right to Life. “This is a momentous order by our new President, and telling that he would time it with the tragic anniversary of Roe. Ohio Right to Life applauds President Trump for making de-funding the abortion industry one of his first orders of business.”

The reinstatement of the pro-life policy comes just days before hundreds of thousands of pro-life people are expected to attend the annual March for Life in Washington D.C. on Friday.

“One of the main reasons that so many voters flocked to President Trump during the election was because of the promises he made to the pro-life community,” said Gonidakis. “Elections have consequences, and we are so grateful that so early in Mr. Trump’s presidency, those consequences are life-affirming. With great anticipation, we look forward to the many more pro-life policies to come in 2017.”

Behold, I am doing a new thing;

now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness

and rivers in the desert.

Isaiah 43:19

Friends for Life:

I just returned from the Defiance March for Life where 200 plus of God’s faithful braved the cold and rain to march for the dignity of human life! Yesterday, I was in Port Clinton as 100+ gathered to also witness to the sanctity of life! I’ve also heard and seen great pictures of the crowds that gathered in Bascom, Lima, Mansfield, Maumee, Tiffin and Norwalk! Also, in just a few short days 10+ busses from the Diocese of Toledo will head down to March for Life in our nation’s capital (please keep us in prayer)! Our God is marching on and God’s people are rising up to march with him!

With all of this feet stomping, prayers and petitions on this Day Of Prayer For The Legal Protection Of Unborn Children (http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/resources/january-22-day-of-prayer.cfm) we see good fruit being born as we learned the great news today that President Trump signed an executive order reinstating the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits federal funding from going towards foreign nonprofit organizations that promote or commit abortions (http://liveactionnews.org/breaking-president-trump-signs-executive-order-defunding-international-planned-parenthood/).

There definitely is a “new thing” springing forth which I believe is pointing us to a ‘kairos’ moment in our nation’s history. Will you be a part of this movement? With your help – your time, talent and treasure we can abolish abortion and restore culture! Perhaps just start by joining the country in prayer for human life by visiting www.9daysforlife.com. And remember, through our prayer and action let us always reach out in mercy to those who are wounded by this culture of death. In that spirit please spread the word about these two upcoming Project Rachel/Entering Canaan Retreats taking place for mothers who have experienced abortion this weekend and for fathers February 18th.

It’s also not too late to join some of the local marches – see the entire list attached as there are still a few more to come in the area! And as always we need more people – especially men to come and be a consistent prayer presence at the abortion facility in Toledo. Contact Bob Schoen at bschoen737@aol.com for more information.

Thanks for all you are doing for the pro-life cause! Let’s not stop now, let’s keep marching!!!

For the King!
