Wyandot County Right to Life‘s RACHEL MOURNING MEMORIAL: is located in Our Lady of Consolation Shrine Park at Carey, Ohio. It is a quiet spot for anyone to come & pray/meditate on the loss of a child after an abortion or from natural causes. The Memorial was dedicated on Oct 7, 1997 & the inscription reads: “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamenting and weeping bitterly. It is Rachel weeping for her children because they are no more.” Jeremiah 31:15. Brief history of Rachel Mourning Memorial: July 1993 Wyandot Co Right to Life voted to pursue the possibility of a memorial. Donations, memorials, school children fundraising, donations of labor and materials allowed the $6,131.69 to pay the bills. The statue was ordered on May 24, 1996. The sculpted marble memorial was designed by Mauro & Enrico Cenderelli of Italy. At that time this was the only one of its kind in USA. The statue & engraved base arrived Oct 31, 1996. The dedication was Oct 7, 1997. Fr Paul Marx, founder of  Human Life International, and Bishop James Hoffman, of the Toledo Diocese, were part of the dedication ceremony. Memorial was donated to OLC because of insurance along with $1,000 for future maintenance. Wyandot Co Right to Life later placed the memorial bench, concrete pad and the inscription on the back of the memorial for those visiting the Rachel Mourning Memorial. WCRTL does the landscaping of the memorial.
