Kansas Suspends Phill Kline’s License for Investigating Planned Parenthood

Kansas Suspends Phill Kline’s License for Investigating Planned Parenthood

In a detailed 154-page decision, the Kansas Supreme Court has indefinitely suspended the law license of former state Attorney General Phill Kline for 11 ethics violations related to his investigation of abortion clinic from 2003-2008.

“The Sebelius-Era vendetta against Kline for daring to uphold Kansas abortion and child sex abuse laws has finally extracted its pound of flesh,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “Contrary to the Court’s ruling, we know Kline to be a selfless man who has dedicated his life in the pursuit of justice. Sometimes, that honesty and integrity comes at a price, and Kline has certainly paid a heavy penalty for standing up to a corrupt administration that went to great lengths to insulate Kansas abortionists from being brought to justice.”

The Court noted that it considered Kline’s motivations were “selfish” and upbraided him for failing to admit guilt.

“The violations we have found are significant and numerous, and Kline’s inability or refusal to acknowledge or address their significance is particularly troubling in light of his service as the chief prosecuting attorney for this State and its most populous county,” the Court stated.

“If a man believes himself to be innocent and has evidence he believes proves his innocence, as was the case with Kline, it seems shocking that the Court would attack him simply for maintaining his rights to a defense,” said Newman. “This case has always been about teaching a lesson to Kline and other prosecutors who might entertain the possibility of trying to enforce the law against abortion providers. It is meant to have a chilling effect on law enforcement everywhere. Now we can expect that women will be further endangered by criminal abortionists while intimidated prosecutors look the other way in order to protect their own political careers. This is disgraceful and the Supreme Court and Disciplinary Administrator who prosecuted Kline should be ashamed today.”

Sweetening the pill: a young liberal feminist has a falling out with hormonal contraception

Sweetening the pill: a young liberal feminist has a falling out with hormonal contraception

BY CAROLYN MOYNIHAN

October 15, 2013 (MercatorNet) – Holly Grigg-Spall is a young woman who calls herself a feminist but who is deeply unpopular with some of the sisterhood right now. English, 30-ish, married to an American and living in California, she has written a book criticising the contraceptive pill. Actually,Sweetening the Pill: Or How We Got Hooked On Hormonal Birth Control is more than critical; it is a sweeping polemic against the pill and every form of hormonal contraception. Since this wonder drug is celebrated by mainstream feminists (Nancy Pelosi, Cecile Richards, Sandra Fluke…) as the great liberator of women, you can see why the others are peeved with her.

And yet, Ms Grigg-Spall (pictured, right) has so much in common with the pill’s diehard champions. Like Ms Fluke, she grew to adulthood thinking that taking this medicine daily was as natural as having toast for breakfast. Like Ms Pelosi and Ms Richards, she thinks contraception is a reproductive right. (No, she is not from what she calls “the religious Right”.) But, although once “hooked” on them, she has fallen out of love with synthetic hormones and wants everyone to know why.

In her mid-20s, when she should have been feeling on top of the world, Holly Grigg-Spall was feeling depressed and empty, ho-hum about sex. And that was when she was not feeling anxious and paranoid or erupting into furious arguments with her boyfriend. “I felt I was losing my mind,” she says.

She had been on the pill since she was 17, when her mother and family doctor told her it would solve the problem of heavy and painful periods as well as protect her against pregnancy. She did not yet have a boyfriend and would not become sexually active for another four years, but she accepted their view that it was the responsible thing to do. She knew nothing about how the pill worked – other than stopping babies arriving – and did not think to ask.

Ten years later, in 2008, she was still largely ignorant about what was going on in her body. She had been dutifully swallowing the pill in various forms and was currently on Yasmin (or Yaz), at her own request, having been impressed by Bayer’s aggressive advertising campaign for this “lifestyle” drug that cleared up acne and prevented side effects such as the weight gain often associated with the pill. A conversation with a friend, however, made her suspect it was this drug that was causing her mood swings and ruining her life.

Six quotes that reveal the truth about abortion

Six quotes that reveal the truth about abortion

BY SARAH TERZO

October 11, 2013 (LiveActionNews) – According to apoll done in 2011, 59% of Americans believe that abortion is wrong. A similar poll commissioned by the Knights of Columbus in 2010 gave the number at 56%. So over half of all Americans believe that abortion is morally wrong.

But many Americans do not realize quite how wrong abortion is. Many people believe that abortion simply “terminates a pregnancy,” removes “tissue,” or suctions out “collections of cells.” Pro-choice organizations perpetuate these myths. In the following quotes, we will see that abortion is much more than the simple removal of “cells” or “tissue.

Reporter Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch described a trial where abortionist Dr. Crist gave testimony about how he performed abortions. Mannies writes (1):

In testimony Wednesday in St. Louis Circuit Court, [abortionist] Crist said that it is not uncommon for second-trimester fetuses to leave the womb feet-first, intact and with their hearts still beating. He sometimes crushes their skulls to get the fetuses out. Other times, he dismembers them.

Pro-Life Feminism: Different Voices, edited by Gail Garnier-Sweet, is a collection of essays written by pro-life feminists. Former clinic worker Paula Sutcliffe, in her essay “Precious in My Sight,” described what she witnessed in the clinic where she worked:

I found much distress in the clinic, but it involved not only the women. I saw the pain of the babies who were born burned from the saline solution used for late-term abortions. I saw the bits of feet, bits of hands, the mangled heads and bodies of the little people. I saw pain and felt pain.

Pro-choice author and researcher Magda Denes felt ambivalent and troubled after her abortion; her conflicting feelings compelled her to immerse herself in abortion research. She witnessed abortions at a busy abortion clinic and interviewed doctors and clinic workers. According to a receptionist at the clinic (2):

I went up to the lab one day and on the pathologiest’s table I saw what I thought was little rubber doll until I realized it was a fetus[.] … I got really shook up and upset and I couldn’t believe it. It had all its fingers and toes, you know, hands and feet[.] … I never thought it would look so real. I didn’t like it.”

This clinic worker, shielded from the reality of the abortion procedures, was not prepared to see the body of an aborted baby.

Having a baby with Down syndrome will ruin your life? Think again. What the statistics say

Having a baby with Down syndrome will ruin your life? Think again. What the statistics say

BY PETER SAUNDERS

  • Fri Oct 18, 2013 10:30 EST

The recent debate on abortion for anencephaly in Northern Ireland has reopened the wider debate on abortion for fetal disability.

It is worth, in this context, remaking the point that the most common disability for which babies are aborted in the UK is not anencephaly but Down’s syndrome (DS).

This is usually on the basis of the perceived burden that children with DS will impose on families and the belief that the lives of disabled children are somehow not worth living. Is this justified?

Brian Skotko, a clinical fellow in genetics at Children’s Hospital Boston, published a series of three studies in the American Journal of Medical Genetics in 2011 on the impact children with Down’s syndrome have on families (these have been previously covered on the CMF blog here and here and in this submission).\

‘So many American women’ he says, ‘are getting prenatal diagnoses of Down’s syndrome, and asking: “What does this mean for my family? What does this diagnosis mean for my marriage? What impact will it have on my other sons and daughters?”

The results are incredibly revealing.

In his first study , 822 brothers and sisters were asked about their feelings and perceptions toward their sibling with Down’s syndrome (DS).

More than 96% of brothers/sisters who responded to the survey indicated that they had affection toward their sibling with DS; and 94% of older siblings expressed feelings of pride. Less than 10% felt embarrassed, and less than 5% expressed a desire to trade their sibling in for another brother or sister without DS.

Among older siblings, 88% felt that they were better people because of their siblings with DS, and more than 90% planned to remain involved in their sibling’s lives as they became adults. The vast majority of brothers and sisters described their relationship with their sibling with DS as positive and enhancing.

In the second study parents of children with Down’s syndrome (DS) were asked how they felt about their lives. Of the 2,044 respondents, 99% reported that they loved their son or daughter; 97% were proud of them; 79% felt their outlook on life was more positive because of them; 5% felt embarrassed by them; and 4% regretted having them.

The overwhelming majority of parents surveyed reported that they were happy with their decision to have their child with DS and indicated that their sons and daughters were great sources of love and pride.

But the third study was most interesting of all as it explored the self-perceptions of children with Down’s syndrome.

Of 284 people with Down’s syndrome (DS), ages 12 and older who were surveyed, nearly 99% indicated that they were happy with their lives, 97% liked who they were, and 96% liked how they looked.

Nearly 99% people with DS expressed love for their families, and 97% liked their brothers and sisters. A small percentage expressed sadness about their life.

Rebecca Taylor, writing about this research for Life Site News when it was first published in 2011, suggested that doctors should give the news of a Down Syndrome diagnosis with a smile saying, ‘There will be challenges but your child is nearly guaranteed to be a happy adult!’

More attention on the ObamaCare “train wreck”

October 17, 2013   ObamaCare

More attention on the ObamaCare “train wreck”

By Dave Andrusko

exchanges45Each day a few more pieces of the ObamaCare health insurance exchange puzzle are found in the box or underneath the couch or broken in half. A headline in a story appearing in the (very sympathetic) POLITICO catches the reader up: “Shutdown over, Congress turns to Obamacare ‘train wreck.’”

Over the last two weeks, we already discussed some of the myriad of problems that go way beyond what was piously dismissed as “glitches”: sticker shock (the same or lesser coverage will cost two or three times as much); the lowest price plans have gigantic deductibles; the obvious…misstatement… that people can keep their health plans, if they like them; the preposterous over-promising; and the simple fact that the meltdown was not primarily or even largely a function of demand—it was the system undergirding healthgov.org

Today we learn about not so much new flaws as an elaboration on some old ones and a few that are getting more attention. For example, as Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) told POLITICO, “The databases that store sensitive medical and financial information aren’t secure. [Over the next couple of months, because the potential for fraud is virtually limitless, there likely will be a flood of stories about consumers being ripped off.] “Worse still, these same individuals will be slapped with a penalty tax for being uninsured.“

Which doesn’t change the basic dilemma: people are still finding it near impossible to sign on, much less navigate healthgov.org. The irony is that in order to keep the public from panicking, everything the Obama administration has done to date is to remind “visitors” that many/most people can obtain insurance subsidies. But as the Washington Post reported this morning, trying to determine eligibility for subsidies is a nightmare.

“Worth every penny to protect women and to eliminate filthy and unsanitary conditions at abortion clinics”

“Worth every penny to protect women and to eliminate filthy and unsanitary conditions at abortion clinics”

Editor’s note. On Wednesday National Right to Life News Today ran a story which explained why it costs money to defend pro-life legislation: pro-abortionists challenge virtually every law. (See “Court defense for Kansas pro-life laws expensive?

“(The doctor) was a filthy man who did not properly sterilize his equipment.”

“This general lack of a sanitary and professional environment starkly contrasted with all my experience inside other doctor’s offices.”

These are just some of the quotes from a police officer who was investigating a theft at an abortion clinic in Kansas City, Kansas. The officer said he shared this information with the Board of Healing Arts and was told “numerous complaints had been made about the clinic, but no laws have been violated.”

Ohio Right to Life’s Strategy for Closing Abortion Mills Showcased on Cover of The Columbus Dispatch

Ohio Right to Life’s Strategy for Closing Abortion Mills

Showcased on Cover of The Columbus Dispatch

Today, the front page of the Columbus Dispatch spotlighted Ohio Right to Life’s strategy for closing abortion mills. The article notes that Ohio will soon have fewer abortion mills than perhaps anytime since the immediate years after the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.
Despite Roe being the so-called “law of the land,” the right to life movement is making real strides to end abortion. This week alone marked the end for two late-term abortion mills in Ohio. Whether by initiating a Late-Term Abortion Ban or by ensuring that abortion mills are adhering to basic health and safety standards, Ohio Right to Life’s strategy for ending abortion is working. We are truly gratified.
Everyday, pro-life Ohioans are facilitating the closure of these abortion clinics, as well. As 40 Days for Life rolls on, Ohio Right to Life is encouraged by all of the pro-life Ohioans who are praying, sidewalk counseling and making new efforts to save the lives of the unborn. Undeniably, pro-lifers throughout Ohio are making a difference.

None of this amazing work could have been accomplished without the advocacy efforts of our affiliated chapters and the special care of pregnancy help centers around the state.

State Health Examiner Affirms Revocation of Abortion Clinic License

State Health Examiner Affirms Revocation of Abortion Clinic License

Notorious Abortionist Martin Haskell Failed to Adhere to State Law

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                    CONTACT: Laura Beth Kirsop

DATE: Wednesday, October 16, 2013                                       PHONE: (614) 547-0099 ext. 309

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Today, Ohio Right to Life obtained the Ohio Department of Health’s Report and Recommendation regarding the revocation of the license of Lebanon Road Surgery Center, an abortion clinic near Cincinnati. A state health examiner affirmed the order to revoke the license after this abortion clinic, operated by the notorious late-term abortionist Martin Haskell, failed to obtain either a transfer agreement or a variance.  The Lebanon Road Surgery Center is the most recent of 2013’s five Ohio abortion clinics closed or slated to close. This news comes less than 48 hours after Ohio Right to Life revealed that another late-term abortionist closed his clinic in Cleveland. Ohio Right to Life offers special thanks to Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati and Elizabeth’s New Life Center for all of their due diligence in ensuring the abortion industry follows state laws and health regulations. Together, the pro-life leaders will continue to ensure that the Lebanon Road Surgery Center follows Ohio law and does not operate without a license.

“We are gratified to see yet another late-term abortionist shutting down,” said Mike Gonidakis, President of Ohio Right to Life. “As a result of this Health Department order, Martin Haskell, a strong proponent and former practitioner of the controversial and deadly partial-birth abortion procedure, will no longer be able to abort children and jeopardize women’s health in Hamilton County.”

According to Ohio law, Lebanon Road Surgery Center exists as an Ambulatory Surgical Facility and because of this legal status, the clinic is not a full-service medical facility. To operate legally, Lebanon Road Surgery Center must have a transfer agreement with a full-service hospital to handle all cases of abortion complications against the mother. In the case that an abortion facility is unable to acquire a transfer agreement, it can apply for a variance (exception). Lebanon Road Surgery Center failed to obtain either.

Abortionist Martin Haskell
“Simply put, the southwest Ohio medical community chooses not to do business with this late term abortion provider and consequently, Haskell cannot operate his abortion business legally,” continued Gonidakis. “Undeniably, the fewer abortions Haskell can execute, the safer Ohio’s women and children will be.”

Ohio Right to Life thanks Paula Westwood, Executive Director of Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati, and Vivian Koob, Executive Director of Elizabeth’s New Life Center, for their pro-life leadership in the Greater Cincinnati area.

Her father wanted her aborted. Now she’s Auburn University’s homecoming queen

AUBURN, AL, October 15, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Molly Ann Dutton is Auburn University’s 100th homecoming queen, but she nearly became a different kind of statistic. Twenty-two years ago, she could have become one of the 2,739 children aborted every day in the United States.

When her father found out that her biological mother had become pregnant, he demanded she abort their child. Instead, the mother chose life.

Molly Ann Dutton

Molly Ann Dutton

Turning to Lifeline Children’s Services in Birmingham, she found support and the help she needed to carry her baby girl to term.

The Christian service placed the child with an adoptive family. Now, Molly Ann Dutton is Miss Homecoming at the famous Alabama university.

“Because that resource was made available to my mother, she decided to give birth to me, and here I am talking to you guys 22 years later,” Dutton said.

She now wants to let others know that “unwanted” children can accomplish great things – and no woman has to face a stressful pregnancy alone.
