Will to Live, NOT Living Will

Will to Live, NOT Living Will

Some may ask if it is acceptable to sign a “Living Will.” Obviously, we cannot predict the future, or know in advance what form of sickness or disease we may be afflicted with in the years ahead.

We therefore cannot make decisions to accept or refuse
treatment before we even know the disease. Yet that is what
some legal documents try to do.

Not every medical treatment is always obligatory. But
to igure out which treatments are obligatory, morally
speaking, and which are only optional, one must know the
medical facts of the case. These facts are then examined in
the light of the moral principles involved.

Doctors are already free to withhold or withdraw useless
procedures that provide no benefit to the patient. Some
people fear that medical technology will be used to torture
them in their final days.

But in the climate of today’s culture, the danger is not
that you will have all kinds of treatments you do not
want. Rather, the danger is that you will not receive the
treatments that you do want.

Moreover, if the living will indicates one does not want
“to be kept alive by medications” or “artificial means”
what does that mean? An aspirin is “medication,” is it
not? Drinking through a straw is “artificial.” People can
construe meanings for these words which the signer of the
document never intended

Hospitalization Of Abortion Patients Occurs Weekly In West Virginia

Hospitalization of abortion patients occurs weekly in West Virginia: hospital doctor

Operation Rescue staff Wed Sep 04 15:57 EST Abortion

Charleston, West Virginia (OperationRescue) – Abortion-related medical emergencies are occurring with alarming frequency, according to a West Virginia physician, who says he sees botched abortion patients “weekly.”

“We commonly (I personally probably at least weekly) see patients at Women and Children’s Hospital in our emergency room or our ultrasound center with complications from abortions at these centers in Charleston: so much for ‘safe and legal.’ These patients are told to come to our hospital because the abortion clinic providers do not have hospital privileges to care for their patients, so we must treat them as emergency ‘drop-ins,’” said Dr. Byron Calhoun, vice chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at West Virginia University. The statement was made in a letter he wrote on June 31, 2013, to West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. The letter was made public by theWest Virginia Gazette.

“No other medical providers are allowed to care for patients, have no backup coverage, and then abandon them to the emergency room,” Calhoun wrote. “We would be held ethically and legally liable.

Dr. Bryon Calhoun

“The fantasy of women’s reproductive health care seems to allow these individuals who perform the abortions some special dispensation to provide substandard care.”

Public Religion Research Institute Poll Review

Yesterday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer published a review of a recent poll conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute (commonly referred to as “The Values Poll”). The poll asked Ohio voters about two issues: abortion and gay marriage.

While the Plain Dealer focused primarily on the issue of gay marriage, I would like to draw your attention to how Ohioans responded to the poll’s abortion question.

The Plain Dealer through a biased lens concluded from the responses, “A slight plurality (47 percent) believes abortion should be legal in all or most cases.”

However, if you look at the breakdown of responses, you’ll find that an overwhelming majority of Ohioans want some kind of restriction on abortion:

In fact, 76% of Ohio voters want abortion to be illegal in a given circumstance.

Undeniably, this news is encouraging: Ohio voters simply don’t want abortion-on-demand.  Whether they want a late-term abortion ban, a partial birth abortion ban, or even the increasingly popular 20-week ban, we can rest assured that Ohio voters have their limits when it comes to abortion.

Ed FitzGerald, the candidate for Ohio governor who is being billed as “100% pro-choice,” could not be more out of step with Ohio voters.  Ed FitzGerald’s 100% pro-choice position appeals to a mere 16% of Ohio voters.

Until he starts drawing a line and qualifying his position like the rest of Ohio, Ed FitzGerald will forever be 100% extreme and out of touch.

GANDHI, MOTHER TERESA, MARTIN LUTHER KING JR., SUSAN B. ANTHONY: ALL PRO-LIFE

Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., Susan B. Anthony: All Pro-Life

by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 9/3/13

Pro-life advocates continue to use the community forums on the popular web site Buzzfeed to promote the pro-life message. A new post today highlights how some popular political and social figures all have one thing in common: they oppose abortion.

Some of the well-known people in the post who oppose abortion include Susan B. Anthony, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and Martin Luther King Jr. Others include former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, former President Ronald Reagan, feminist Mary Wollstonecraft, and Hippocrates.

ABORTION’S ‘INVISIBLE GRIEF’ SURFACES WITH NATIONWIDE GRAVESITE CEREMONIES

Abortion’s ‘Invisible Grief’ Surfaces with Nationwide Gravesite Ceremonies

by Tom Ciesielka | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 9/3/13

Most people will acknowledge that losing a child is a terrible thing.

And that’s the focal point of the National Day of Remembrance set for September 14, 2013. This solemn event will memorialize tens of thousands of children buried at gravesites around the nation — a tiny fraction of the 55 million children killed by abortion since it was legalized in 1973.

Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, Priests for Life, and the Pro-Life Action League are coordinating this day to heighten awareness that every abortion results in the death of an innocent child, create an appropriate outlet for both personal and national grief, and pray for an end to abortion. Details on the event are available at AbortionMemorials.com.

The grief caused by abortion is an “invisible” grief — what grief therapy expert Dr. Kenneth Doka defines as “disenfranchised loss,” one not recognized or socially sanctioned and therefore not triggering the type of social support people normally receive at a time of significant loss. Post-abortion counselors attest that this grief is amplified by the message that abortion is a legally protected “right” to be celebrated by our society, leaving no room for mourning the loss of the aborted child. To admit that loss would require abortion advocates to acknowledge that a real baby is involved.

The National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children is set for September 14 to mark the 25th anniversary of the burial of several hundred abortion victims in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Solemn prayer vigils will be conducted at the Milwaukee gravesite, as well as 34 other burial sites, as well as dozens of other memorial sites dedicated to the unborn victims of abortion. There are hundreds of such sites across the country.

OPPOSING CREATION OF THREE-PARENT HUMAN EMBRYOS IS NOT ANTI-SCIENCE

Opposing Creation of Three-Parent Human Embryos is Not Anti-Science

by Wesley J. Smith | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 9/3/13 10:22 AM

This is getting boring, and pardon the length of this post, but records must be kept straight.

I smacked Hank Campbell, who runs Science 2.0, pretty good a few weeks ago for claiming ludicrously that I am “anti-science” and believe that biology is a “tool of Lucifer.” Utter nonsense.

Campbell’s diatribe was sparked by my measured response disagreeing with a column by Campbell’s pal and co/author Alex Berezow–who runs Real Clear Science–in which Berezow argued that we should permit the creation of 3-parent embryos. The entire brouhaha led to my writing, “The Anti Science Canard.”

One Of Our Own Needs Help Virginia

Women
Speak Out
Pro-life Friend –

One of ours needs help. Pro-life rockstar, Ken Cuccinelli, is running for Governor of Virginia, and he’s 6 points behind in the polls.

There’s a reason why this race is so important to ensuring our legislative victories from the past summer continue.

The states that passed pro-life reforms had a pro-life governor willing to work with us and advance the will of the pro-life grassroots. From Governor Perry in Texas to Governor Kasich in Ohio, our friends helped to make great gains for unborn babies and their moms this summer.

They understood their duty to protect their state’s citizens, no matter how small, from the horrific conditions and practices festering in abortion facilities. Their offices review the safety risks and actually talked to health experts, and that led them to act.

In the Virginia race, Ken Cuccinelli is running against Terry McAuliffe — a man considered to be one of the most pro-abortion candidates in any election this year. And our pro-life friend is behind in the polls.

Terry is a former Clinton fundraiser/failed businessman turned politician. He’s using his fundraising connections and Clinton ties to try and buy the Virginia gubernatorial race with the help of Planned Parenthood and the rest of the abortion industry.

If Terry McAuliffe is elected Governor of Virginia, the results for women and the unborn will be disastrous. Instead of health experts consulting on public health, we’ll have Planned Parenthood “suggesting” changes.

The abortion industry will use this election as the example for every race in 2014. They’ll say: if the pro-life movement won’t stand behind their own in Virginia, why would they stand behind you?

And they’ll be right. This election is the first test of political muscle for the pro-life movement following this summer of legislative wins. We can’t deny that. The pro-life movement has to show that we are willing to stand behind our allies in the states.

Over the next two months heading into this election, Women Speak Out – Virginia will give this gubernatorial race everything we’ve got, but we’re going to need all the help we can get.

Virginia has to be a battleground yet again, and life has to be victorious. Will you help us fight Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry’s puppet candidate? A donation of just $10 can help us take the fight to the abortion industry and put an ally in the governor mansion.

Thank you,

Emily Buchanan

What To Say To Your Post-Abortive Friend

What to say to your post-abortive friend

AUGUST 31

A friend once confided in me that she had had an abortion. She had two children and pregnancy hadn’t been easy on her. Her doctors told her that continuing her latest pregnancy was risking her life. I could tell she was in pain and I didn’t know what to say. No one had ever told me flat out about their abortion before. There is so much I should have said and done in that moment. But I didn’t. Here’s what you should do if your friend confides in you about her abortion.

Denial: How the pro-choice side refuses to directly address abortion

Denial: How the pro-choice side refuses to directly address abortion

SEPTEMBER 1

“He can’t hear you.  He never will.”
Juror #8, Twelve Angry Men

pro-abortion1Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino has vetoed the “Reproductive Health Care Facilities Access Act”, which would have censored pro-life protesters outside abortion clinics.  But perhaps the most revealing aspect of the failed legislation was its name: consider the terms, so fundamental to the pro-choice movement, “reproductive health” and “reproductive rights.”

Literally, your reproductive rights involve your right to create or not create offspring.  The term, “reproductive rights” does not refer to destroying offspring.  In America, about three hundred abortions a day are done in the second and third trimesters; children who could survive outside the womb are probably killed hundreds of times a week.  Globally, thousands of viable children are likely killed a week.  Late abortion at least is not reproductive rights, it’s not reproductive wrongs, it’s not reproduction periodIt’s homicide.
