Abortion Facility is Once Again Located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio

January 11, 2014
Dear Friend,

It is with great sadness that I must let you know an abortion facility is once again located in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.   The facility is called Northeast Ohio Women’s Center, and is located at 2127 State Road, in the same location as the Capital Care Network which was closed down last year by the Ohio Department of Health due to extensive violations.

The Ohio Department of Health reports a license pending for this facility, however, the website for the Northeast Ohio Women’s Center states that they are currently accepting appointments 7 days a week to medically terminate pregnancies of 5 to 12.5 weeks gestation.  They further state that they will be offering full services (surgical abortions) during the first quarter of this year.

Public records and the firm’s website indicate that owner/operator of this abortion facility is Dr. David Burkons, an abortionist who is listed as having performed abortions at the Planned Parenthood location in Bedford, Ohio.  Business filings from the Ohio Secretary of State show that this limited liability corporation was filed on January 1 of this year.

It goes without saying that we must once again mobilize and stand together to show our community and this business that we WILL NOT TOLERATE the killing of innocent human lives.  We need to pray, stand peaceful vigil, provide counseling and lifesaving alternatives to those who seek these services, and do all that we legally can do to prevent this evil from occurring not only in Cuyahoga Falls, but everywhere.

We were obviously taken by surprise, but that will not stop us.  As we formulate an action plan, we will keep you informed through action alerts and through information on our website.  In the meantime, please pray for God to change the hearts and minds of abortion minded individuals so that this abortion facility and others will be closed forever.   Please reply to this e-mail if you would like to be part of a vigil schedule at this location.

For Life,

Denise Leipold

Key Testimony Presented on Need for Abortion Funding Ban

Key Testimony Presented on Need for Abortion Funding Ban

By Susan T. Muskett, J.D., Senior Legislative Counsel

Helen Alvare

Helen Alvare

Today, the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice received key testimony in support of the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R. 7), legislation introduced by Congressmen Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Dan Lipinski (D-Il.). H.R. 7 would permanently prohibit subsidies for abortion and health insurance coverage of abortion in federal programs – both within longstanding federal programs and within the health care law signed by President Obama in 2010.

In her testimony, Professor Helen Alvare of George Mason University School of Law, asserted that it “serves the interests of American women for the federal government once and for all to remove itself from the business of abortion funding.” First, she explained that Americans in general, especially women, oppose government funding of abortion, and that abortion funding for the poor is favored more by the well-off than by the poor themselves (a reality she called a “particularly unpleasant fact”). Women don’t view abortion as a “public good” deserving of funding, according to Alvare. She then pointed to the federal government’s own statements and documents as evidence that abortion is not part of a genuine “women’s health” agenda.

Richard M. Doerflinger

Richard M. Doerflinger

Richard Doerflinger testified on behalf of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in favor of writing into permanent law “a policy on which there has been strong popular and congressional agreement for over 35 years” going back to the 1976 enactment of the Hyde Amendment. He submitted testimony that explained that abortion rates substantially increase when government funding is provided, citing a study by the Guttmacher Institute (the former research arm of Planned Parenthood) as evidence that “Medicaid-eligible women whose states provide Medicaid funding for abortion have more than twice the abortion rate of eligible women whose states do not provide such funding.”

Both Alvare and Doerflinger testified that the U.S. Supreme Court’s caselaw recognizes abortion as inherently different from other medical procedures, because as the Court put it, “no other procedure involves the purposeful termination of a potential human life.” Doerflinger cited Supreme Court decisions, going back to 1977, that viewed the funding of abortion as separate and distinct from the constitutional “right” to abortion. “Even courts insisting on a constitutional ‘right’ to abortion have said this alleged right ‘implies no limitation on the authority of a State to make a value judgment favoring childbirth over abortion, and to implement that judgment by the allocation of public funds,’” Doerflinger said.

Nevertheless, despite the longstanding support of the public, the Congress, and the courts, for restrictions on the use of government funds to support abortion, NARAL has issued an alert to its supporters in opposition to H.R. 7, asserting: “Our goal is to stop this bill from coming up for a vote – and we can do that if we show enough members of the House that this bill will have huge political ramifications. Tell your lawmaker that you demand the House not bring H.R. 7 up for a vote.”

A video of Professor Helen Alvare’s testimony can be viewed here; a video of Richard Doerflinger’s testimony can be viewed here.

H.R. 7 currently has 145 co-sponsors. To view an always-current list of co-sponsors of H.R. 7, click here. The Senate companion bill, introduced by Senator Roger Wicker (R-Ms.), is S. 946, which has 24 co-sponsors. To view an always-current list of co-sponsors of S. 946, click here.

Carolina Sepe Dies 16 Days After Giving Birth While In A Coma

Carolina Sepe dies 16 days after giving birth while in a coma

By Dave Andrusko

Carolina Sepe

Carolina Sepe

Carolina Sepe was 10 weeks pregnant when an angry neighbor burst into her family’s home in Lauro near Naples on August 25 and opened fire with a pistol. Sepe, along with other member of her family, were innocent bystanders when Domenico Aschettino turned his wrath on them after killing Sepe’s father, Vincenzo Sepe.

Shot in the head, Sepe was left in a coma. Last month, doctors safely delivered her baby, by that time 27 weeks gestational age, by caesarean section.

Tragically, however, Sepe died on Saturday, according to The Daily Telegraph, 16 days after the birth of her baby girl. Maria Liliana weighed 1.1 kg (approximately 2.5 pounds) at birth. She is on life support but said to be in stable condition.

Compounding the tragedy is that Sepe’s father and grandmother were killed and other family members wounded in the rampage. Carolina’s husband, Giampiero Siniscalchi who managed to escape with the couple’s two year old son, Eliseo, was convinced his wife’s condition was improving and that she would regain consciousness. (He’d left his job to visit Carolina daily.)

“I recorded a video of Eliseo on my phone and when I made (Carolina) listen to his voice, I cried,” he told Corriere della Sera. “I did it again and she cried. I am sure my wife can hear me and hear the voice of our son. I am sure she understands. She cannot communicate or move, but she can understand. She can heal and come home.”

But as The Daily Telegraph’s Tom Kington explained, by mid-December, Sepe’s vital signs had grown weaker. Kington quoted Franco Paradiso, the director of the Calderelli hospital, who said, “The patient’s condition had worsened and so we opted to intervene” before it was too late.

Aschettino had argued with Vincenzo Sepe with over a car accident. Arrested and deemed mentally sound, Aschettino has since tried to commit suicide in jail.

Jahi McMath ‘Improving,’ and ‘Doing Very Well’ after Receiving Treatment, family says

Jahi McMath ‘improving,’ and ‘doing very well’ after receiving treatment, family says

BY KIRSTEN ANDERSEN

OAKLAND, CA, January 9, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A 13-year-old girl declared “brain dead” by doctors at Oakland’s Children’s Hospital after suffering cardiac arrest following surgery to treat sleep apnea is said to be “improving” after receiving a tracheostomy and feeding tube.

“She is doing very well, and now getting the treatment she should have gotten 28 days ago,” family attorney Christopher Dolan said via Twitter. “Doctors are optimistic that her condition has stabilized.”

Jahi McMath underwent both surgeries at an undisclosed Catholic medical center after her family reached a legal settlement with Children’s Hospital allowing them to remove her from their facility.

Previously, they had begged the hospital to allow the procedures to be performed there, where Jahi had remained on a ventilator following her cardiac arrest on December 9, but the hospital refused, saying they would not allow medical procedures to be performed on a “deceased” patient.

California defines a loss of brain activity as legal death, but both Jahi’s family and Dr. Paul Byrne, who examined Jahi while she was at Children’s, said that despite the hospital’s insistence that Jahi was “brain dead,” her heart was beating on its own, her organs were functioning and she was responding with movements to family members.

The “post-Roe” generations: caring and compassionate and wanting to protect the rights of the most vulnerable

By Carol Tobias, President, National Right to Life

National Right to Life President Carol Tobias

National Right to Life President Carol Tobias

I had the opportunity in recent months to speak on the campuses of both Princeton University, as a guest of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society, and the University of Dallas, as a guest of Crusaders for Life. These are two very different campuses, but both had wonderful, sincere students with similar questions.

Many of them wanted to know how they can impact their generation in favor of life. One young man wanted to know if he should even get involved in what is touted as “a woman’s issue.” Another wanted to know how he could influence people since he isn’t very outgoing and comfortable with bringing up the issue of abortion for discussion.

One young lady already has a plan to get involved in politics and hopes to end up in Congress. Others wanted to know about internship possibilities with NRLC or wanted more information on our summer Academy, or “pro-life boot camp” as I like to call it.

It is very encouraging to spend time with the “post-Roe” generations. They are caring and compassionate, wanting to protect the rights of the most vulnerable. They are bold and eager to make a difference.

But many of them also need guidance and education. They need to hear from, and maybe even be mentored by adult pro-lifers who will help them understand the issues and how to respond to pro-abortion challenges.

Those who have been in the pro-life movement for a while can help young people by showing them what opportunities are available to influence their local community and encouraging them to take a stand. In return, we need to be open to new ideas and new strengths brought to the Movement by young people with fresh energy. Because we have done something a particular way for several years doesn’t mean it can’t be done differently, or maybe even better.

If you don’t have active young people in your chapter or local group, find ways to reach out and get them involved. The post-Roe generations want to make a difference.

What Does It Mean To Be Pro-Life?

NRL News Today
January 10, 2014   Pro-Lifers

What does it mean to be pro-life?

By Paul Stark

standforlife5Every human being matters, and we ought to act accordingly

The media often use the label “anti-abortion” to describe pro-life advocates. It’s true that we oppose abortion—and infanticide, euthanasia and embryo-destructive research. But we are only against those things because we are for something else.

What we are for

What are we for? We are for the proposition that human life is good, that it is worth living, that it deserves respect and protection. We are for the proposition that every human being has an equal worth and dignity—that every human being has a right to live.

The pro-life position rejects all attempts to divide humanity into those who have rights and those who don’t. Our society now recognizes that past discrimination on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity and social status was deeply unjust. We recognize that the worth of a human being does not depend on such characteristics.

Nor, however, does the worth of a human being depend on age, size, ability, dependency, stage of development or the desires and decisions of others. The big are not more valuable than the small. The strong do not have more rights than the weak. The independent do not matter more than the vulnerable and needy.

No, we have value and a right to life simply because we are human—not because of what we can do, but because of what (the kind of being) we are. That’s why everyone matters. Everyone counts.

What we are against

It is because we support equal human dignity that we oppose the intentional killing of innocent human beings. And that means we oppose abortion, infanticide, euthanasia and embryo-destructive research.

Pro-lifers oppose abortion because it takes the life of a human being before he or she is born. The scientific facts of embryology and developmental biology make clear that the unborn (the human embryo or fetus) is a distinct and living human organism, a full-fledged (though immature) member of the species Homo sapiens. Each of us was once an embryo and a fetus, just as we were once infants, toddlers and adolescents.

And all human beings, at all stages, have a right to life, whether or not they are “wanted” or “convenient.”

We oppose euthanasia and assisted suicide because killing is never the answer to the difficulties of life. All human beings should receive our compassion and care, irrespective of disease, disability or perceived “quality of life.”

We oppose embryonic stem cell research (but not adult or non-embryonic stem cell research) and human cloning because they require the destruction of human embryos. Human embryos are human beings in the embryonic phase of life. And all human beings, regardless of appearance or location (e.g., a petri dish), ought to be treated with respect and not as mere raw material to use for the hypothetical benefit of others.

Living our conviction

But being pro-life is about more than just holding an ethical position. To be truly pro-life means to live and act accordingly.

It means treating other people with dignity and respect—even those with whom we disagree. It means helping pregnant women in need and those who suffer from illness or disability.

Pro-Abortion Advocates Have Vulnerable Women Thinking That Becoming Pregnant Is A PROBLEM That Should Be Solved By Taking The Life Of The Unborn Child!!!

January 2, 2014
Dear Friend,

When you witness outside of an abortion facility or Planned Parenthood location, you get a wide variety of responses when trying to persuade women not to kill their unborn child. The one response that really upsets me more than others is when a girl tells me that she “can’t afford to have this baby (yes…she says ‘baby’!)”, and “are you going to feed this baby and pay for it after I have it?”

Pro-life advocates are often portrayed as carrying about children only while they are in the womb, and that is just a downright lie! We work closely with crisis pregnancy centers and other resources to help children both before and after they are born.   No one ever said it was going to be easy.   But I think the reason I am so bothered when I’m told by someone that they can’t have a child (AFTER the child is conceived) for economic reasons is that they should have thought about that BEFORE the child was created! I don’t mean to downplay anyone’s circumstances, or how or why a life was conceived. What I DO want to focus on is the lack of responsibility that seems to be pervasive in our society. There is no genie that appears to grant three wishes, no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and no magic tricks that automatically changes our circumstances. Why would anyone expect that taking care of a child they created is someone else’s responsibility?! Now, before you get angry and think I don’t care or want to help anyone, you’re wrong.   I DO think we should help as much as we can. What I DON’T like is that pro-abortion advocates have vulnerable women thinking that becoming pregnant is a PROBLEM that should be solved by taking the life of the unborn child for whatever reason!!! These children are not unwanted: I want them, God wants them, and there are countless numbers of families that want them and would adopt them in a heartbeat!

I happen to be part of a loving and caring extended family that over the years helped my parents with me and my brothers and sisters when needed, helped me with my children when needed, and God willing, will continue to be support for my grandchildren, their children and beyond. I also belong to a wonderful church and have a fantastic network of friends.   I know that not everyone is this fortunate.   I truly believe that we should be of support beyond our own families—personally if we can—or be of support to organizations like crisis pregnancy centers and more. My beef is with the abortion industry, so called women’s rights advocates and more who have made a pregnancy into a problem rather than a gift, and who demean the sanctity of life in general and brings it to the point where I am standing outside of legal termination of life facility and a girl tells me that she is killing her child because of money.   This is reality…..and this is wrong.

Proverbs 22:6 says: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”  We need as a society to change the reality of what our children are learning. We need to rely more on God and our faith, and return to the principles and morals on which this country was founded. That DOESN’T mean we are “shoving our religion down someone’s throat” as pro-abortion advocates say. It means that science has proven that life begins at conception, and that the unborn child is a uniquely separate human being which happens to depend on his or her mother for survival. It means that our founding documents say that we are ALL entitled to life, and it should not be arbitrarily terminated before birth no matter what the reason. It’s not rocket science….it’s life!

Our work goes on….

Food For Thought

In 2012, a panel of physicians meeting in Ireland, a country with one of the world’s lowest rates of maternal mortality, concluded:  “We affirm that direct abortion–the purposeful destruction of the unborn child–is not medically necessary to save the life of a woman.”  They further stated: “The prohibition of abortion does not affect, in any way, the availability of optimal care to pregnant women.”

Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in the United States Senate.

From the Desk of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham

Pro-life Friend:

We need your immediate help.

In November, I introduced the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in the United States Senate.

This historic legislation – already passed by the House of Representatives last summer – protects unborn children at 20 weeks based on their ability to feel pain.

Now that the bill has been introduced, we need to gather as many co-sponsors as possible in order to force Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to bring it up for a vote.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a leading advocate for the unborn in the halls of Congress, and they’re currently planning a massive effort to mobilize millions of pro-life advocates from around the country to fight for this bill.

But it won’t be easy. That’s why I am counting on you to make an immediate gift of $10, $25, $50, or even $100 or more right now to the Susan B. Anthony List.

With your help, we can make a forceful case in the U.S. Senate and across the country that late-term abortions must end now, especially in the wake of Kermit Gosnell’s House of Horrors.

I am optimistic that we can force a vote in the U.S. Senate and put every single Senator on record… but we need you standing strong with us to help get the job done.

The best way you can help right now is to make an immediate donation of any size to my friends at the Susan B. Anthony List.  They are doing an incredible job.

This is a groundbreaking time for the pro-life movement. We are winning this fight and momentum continues to build.

But remember, we’ll have Senate Democrats and their friends at Planned Parenthood and other pro-choice groups trying to stop us every step of the way.  Emily’s List, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and others have already aggressively attacked our efforts.

That’s why we need an avalanche of grassroots support from pro-lifers across America right now.

So please, make an immediate donation to the SBA List as we fight together to protect unborn children.

I look forward to keeping you updated on our progress.

May God continue to bless these efforts to protect unborn children and their mothers from the violence of abortion.

Sincerely,

Lindsey Graham
United States Senator

PS: I am working alongside the SBA List as we work to protect pain-capable children from the hands of late-term abortionists. Please send the biggest donation you can afford right now to the SBA List so we can force a vote in the United States Senate.
