What A Wild Ride We’re On!

January 25, 2017
Dear Friend,
Donald Trump has been the President of the United States for less than one week, and it’s been a wild ride!  The past year has been filled with controversy, rhetoric and disharmony, and none of that has abated since the inauguration only 5 short days ago. Here’s my recap on a few things:

1.   Last October, a tape of crude and inappropriate comments made about women by Donald Trump was released.  It was disgusting and horrifying.  Women were outraged!  Yet what a double standard many of those women have!  This past Saturday, marches about women’s rights were held around the country in supposed protest about Donald Trump’s disregard for women, yet he hadn’t been in office 24 hours, and the behavior and signage of many of the march participants was much more crude and disgusting than what was revealed by the tape of Donald Trump.  How hypocritical! The speakers and the march participants did not show much regard for being women, and actually CELEBRATED the legality of killing an unborn child.   What did they think they accomplished by this march?  The women’s march certainly didn’t represent me!

2.  One of President Trump’s first actions this week was to reinstate the Mexico City Policy, which effectively stops U.S. funding of abortion to international locations.  Hallelujah!   The only negative here is that there is an exception to rape, incest and fetal anomalies in this policy, and that needs to be changed.

3.  HR7 was passed by Congress this week and now goes to the Senate. No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act (HR 7), introduced by Rep. Chris Smith, R-NJ, makes permanent the so-called Hyde Amendment. Thus far the amendment, which prohibits federal money from being used to fund abortions through Medicaid, has been subject to annual renewal. The bill also removes funding from Obamacare. The BAD thing about this bill is that it also has exceptions for rape, incest and fetal anomalies that need to be removed.  Contact your senator to support this bill, but REMOVE THE EXCEPTIONS!

I do have more hope for the future than ever before with the election of our new president, but I’m not taking it for granted.   Watch for updates here soon about what you can do to make a difference.
In the meantime, pray for all of us who will be going to Washington DC this Friday to march for women’s rights, born and unborn, at the March for Life.
Our work goes on.

For Life,
Denise Leipold

Executive Director

Thank you!

A big thank you to Bishop Murry from the Diocese of Youngstown!

Since we serve Portage County (which is in the diocese of Youngstown), we were requested by the diocese to take part in a pro-life expo held last Saturday by the diocese in Canton.  At the mass celebrated by Bishop Murry, he bestowed a special blessing on all of us who will be attending the March for Life in Washington, DC.  We met many wonderful people at the expo, and will also be participating at the expo this coming Sunday in Youngstown, weather permitting and we don’t get stuck in Washington!

The REAL Truth…

American Life League’s video entitled
“Who Was the Real Margaret Sanger?”
will air on EWTN this week!
Thursday, January 26, at 10:00 a.m. EST

Saturday, January 28, at 6:00 p.m. EST.

Who Was the Real Margaret Sanger? unmasks the contraceptive mentality and Planned Parenthood’s racist and eugenic roots. This is an excellent video to watch in light of all the publicity that Planned Parenthood has received over the last week.
After watching the video, ALL would like your feedback. Please e-mail mflores@all.org to let them know what you think.

The Only Number That Matters

Ohio Right to Life

Friend —

Every January, in the dead of winter, often facing blizzards and negative windchills, hundreds of thousands of pro-life people travel to Washington D.C. to protest one of the darkest decisions ever rendered by the United States Supreme Court: Roe v. Wade.

As you undoubtedly know, over the weekend, the media breathlessly reported the major crowd sizes at the Women’s March, a march that claimed to stand for “diversity” and “inclusivity” but rejected the partnership of pro-life feminist and student groups. Unsurprisingly, Planned Parenthood was the March’s biggest sponsor. (Read this great article from The New York Times about the divisiveness of the Women’s March).

Despite all of this talk about numbers and crowd sizes, we are called to remember that the only number that really matters this January is 60 million–60 million innocent human lives who have been lost to Roe v. Wade over the last 44 years.

Devastatingly, this number outpaces the Women’s March and the March for Life in strides. Remembering this number should compel us all to take a stand and join the March for Life this Friday. (Luckily, this year’s weather is promising a balmy high of 43 degrees and perhaps some sunshine!)

Afterwards, there are multiple March for Life receptions being hosted by Ohio’s pro-life Senator and Congressmen! Join us for some food, refreshments and pro-life conversation after the March! (Details below.)

Don’t miss this opportunity to speak out against the greatest human rights violation of our time! Forty-four years is too long. March with us against this inhumane practice and for the dignity of every human life!

Let’s March for Life!

Behold, I am doing a new thing;

now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness

and rivers in the desert.

Isaiah 43:19

Friends for Life:

I just returned from the Defiance March for Life where 200 plus of God’s faithful braved the cold and rain to march for the dignity of human life! Yesterday, I was in Port Clinton as 100+ gathered to also witness to the sanctity of life! I’ve also heard and seen great pictures of the crowds that gathered in Bascom, Lima, Mansfield, Maumee, Tiffin and Norwalk! Also, in just a few short days 10+ busses from the Diocese of Toledo will head down to March for Life in our nation’s capital (please keep us in prayer)! Our God is marching on and God’s people are rising up to march with him!

With all of this feet stomping, prayers and petitions on this Day Of Prayer For The Legal Protection Of Unborn Children (http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/resources/january-22-day-of-prayer.cfm) we see good fruit being born as we learned the great news today that President Trump signed an executive order reinstating the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits federal funding from going towards foreign nonprofit organizations that promote or commit abortions (http://liveactionnews.org/breaking-president-trump-signs-executive-order-defunding-international-planned-parenthood/).

There definitely is a “new thing” springing forth which I believe is pointing us to a ‘kairos’ moment in our nation’s history. Will you be a part of this movement? With your help – your time, talent and treasure we can abolish abortion and restore culture! Perhaps just start by joining the country in prayer for human life by visiting www.9daysforlife.com. And remember, through our prayer and action let us always reach out in mercy to those who are wounded by this culture of death. In that spirit please spread the word about these two upcoming Project Rachel/Entering Canaan Retreats taking place for mothers who have experienced abortion this weekend and for fathers February 18th.

It’s also not too late to join some of the local marches – see the entire list attached as there are still a few more to come in the area! And as always we need more people – especially men to come and be a consistent prayer presence at the abortion facility in Toledo. Contact Bob Schoen at bschoen737@aol.com for more information.

Thanks for all you are doing for the pro-life cause! Let’s not stop now, let’s keep marching!!!

For the King!

Every Life Update – Let us Pray, Let us March!

Friends for Life:

The “Heartbeat Bill” and the “Pain-Capable Bill” – two prolife pieces of legislation which would curtail abortions and challenge Roe v. Wade sit on Ohio Governor Kasich’s desk. Please pray that God’s will be done and this pro-life legislation moves forward so that unborn children may have what we all enjoy: THE RIGHT TO LIFE! You may consider calling the Governor’s office (614-466-3555) to voice your support particularly for the Heartbeat Bill. While there are disagreements in the pro-life community about the bill, it has forced people from here locally, to anchors on CNN to talk about the fact that at 6 weeks, the baby’s heart beats. What a testimony to the dignity of their lives.

To pray for these two pieces of legislation and for an end to abortion in our own community, we’ll gather for a Candlelight Vigil this Thursday December 15th at 5:30 p.m. at Capital Care, 1160 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo. Join us for an hour as we witness to the light that Christ brings into the world and as we boldly proclaim to death that LIFE has the final victory in Jesus Christ our Lord! Please see attached flyer for more information.

Secondly, we still have plenty of spots open on our buses for the March for Life this January. Our trip is open to the young at heart so if you’d like to join us please send in your registration today as this Thursday the 15th is the cut-off date! To register, send $129 in check or cash to Catholic Charities, 1933 Spielbusch Ave., Toledo Oh 43604 and be sure to put “March for Life” in the memo line. Only $99 for college students! Registration payments due December 15! Be sure to include email, cell phone, school you attend (or place of work) and hotel rooming preference!

Finally, in my last email I mentioned we’ll be having a prayer vigil January 12th for the abolition of the death penalty. We’ve moved that date to January 11th to proceed and intercede for the man on death row. Join us at 6 pm on January 11th at St. Francis de Sales Chapel, 501 Cherry St., Toledo. More information to come – just save the date as Bishop Daniel Thomas will be leading us in prayer.

From the moment of conception until death we proclaim during this season of Advent that every life is worth living, every life is redeemable, and there is no sin so deep, that’s God’s mercy is not deeper still. Join us in this fight for life!

For the King!

Will You Be Their Voice?

Today Marilyn and our team joined David Bereit and the 40 Days for Life crew outside the Supreme Court for the kickoff of the #40DaysUnited campaign.

Every spring and fall 40 Days for Life coordinates campaigns across our nation and in 23 other countries across the world. These campaigns bring together pro-life advocates for 40 days of peaceful witnesses outside abortion facilities. And this is the first time 40 Days for Life will be doing a bus tour visiting ALL 50 states – including Hawaii and Alaska!!

At each stop, national and local pro-life leaders will speak to the importance of prayerful witness, as well as voting pro-life!

As you know, Hillary Clinton, Planned Parenthood and the Abortion industry are committed to destroying innocent lives – babies who cannot speak for themselves. So I have a question for you: Will you be their voice?

Visit www.40DaysUnited.com now to find out when the #40DaysUnited bus will be visiting your state and while you’re there, consider signing up for an hour or peaceful witness outside of the nearest abortion facility.

Marilyn speaks outside the Supreme
Court

Not only will the bus be coming to your state within the next forty days, but there are also 40 Days for Life campaigns in hundreds of cities across the nation. If there isn’t one in your town, they’re always looking for passionate pro-lifers to start them!

40 Days for Life does such great work, mobilizing the largest nationwide pro-life campaign… in history. I do hope that you’ll visit their website today and find out how you can get involved.

The unborn have no advocates but us. Thank you for being their voice – both on the sidewalk and in the voting booth.

For Life,

Marjorie Dannenfelser
President, Susan B. Anthony List

Every Life Update – 40 Days for Life and More!

Friends for Life:

The Holy Spirit’s presence is palpable. I can feel Him moving. I can feel Him calling all of us to Jesus’ love, to Jesus’ mercy, to the peace Jesus offers us. I also feel He is excited as I am for this 40 Days for Life Campaign which begins tomorrow! For 40 straight days beginning September 28 through November 6 we will pray, fast and offer peaceful vigil at Toledo’s last remaining abortion facility, Capital Care (1160 W. Sylvania Ave.). If you have not signed up to pray an hour yet, please consider doing so right now at www.40daysforlife.com!

If you want to see and experience what the campaign is all about you can also visit our opening vigil which will take place tomorrow night at 7 pm at Capital Care (CC). Fr. Michael Dandurand will join us from Holy Trinity Parish in Assumption, we’ll hear legislative updates from Ed Sitter from the Foundation for Life, and we’ll hear a post-abortive testimony. I’ll also share a little bit about some terrific events we have coming up including:

  1. Our Prayer Vigil with the Founder and Director of the 40 Days for Life, Shawn Carney which will be Saturday October 8th at 1 pm at CC (see bulletin and flyer attached).

  1. Our Mass to Celebrate the Dignity of Life with Bishop Daniel E. Thomas which will be Saturday October 15th at 9 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Parish, 4555 N. Haven Ave., Toledo, followed by a Eucharistic Procession to the abortion facility. That’s right, weather permitting we’re bringing Jesus right to Capital Care (see bulletin and flyer attached)!

Also, in tomorrow’s “News” to the Diocese a letter (attached) will go out informing every pastor and pastoral associate about the 40 Days for Life and the Culture Project (www.restoreculture.com). I’ve attached the letter so you can read it to share with others or invite them to again watch this video Bishop Thomas did with me to promote each initiative! (Watch the Bishop Thomas video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shNB_mnoZ20)

Finally, I just wanted to fill you in that we had a great meeting for Hope Park (www.hopepark.org) last night here at the Pastoral Center. There will be a clean-up day at the site on Saturday October 1st from 9-11 a.m. followed by a prayer rally on the grounds on Friday October 7 from 6:30-8:30. National media may be in town so mark these dates on your calendar and consider joining us to clean up Hope Park and celebrate what God has done, is doing, and will do on the site of the former Center for Choice – and this entire region!

Be at peace my brothers and sisters, the Lord is not only with us, but He fights alongside us for the Gospel of Life!!!

For Him,

Peter
