Winning The Fight Against Abortion

Pro-lifers are winning the fight against abortion. Here’s why.

Bradley Mattes

May 11, 2017 (LifeIssues) — This month marks my 42nd year of pro-life activism. I’d like to tell you it began when I was a year old, but that would be lying. I was in high school and did a persuasive speech on abortion.

Yesterday morning I received a Facebook message from a dear friend from the past, who in the early ’80s was known to most every pro-life advocate in the nation.

Image
Nancyjo Mann still sports colorful hair

She asked a question that is on the minds of many pro-life Americans today.

She hit the pro-life scene with hair dyed in vibrant colors, was a member of a rock band and wore feathers in her hair. She was clearly not the typical grassroots pro-lifer.

Nancyjo Mann was the first woman to widely go public about her late-term abortion, sharing her remorse and horrific experience. The abortionist not only killed her baby, but butchered her body so badly she was never able to get pregnant again. Further, his ineptness created lifelong physical and emotional complications she deals with to this day.

Upon his first introduction to this colorful young woman, my former colleague, Dr. Jack Willke, saw the tremendous value Nancyjo and others like her would bring to the movement. Her flamboyant exterior actually enhanced her dramatic and moving message.

Through Facebook, Nancyjo asked my candid opinion regarding the effectiveness of the modern-day pro-life movement. She was concerned that we haven’t progressed. We still face many of the same issues we did back during her peak of involvement. Churches are still reluctant to take a stand on the most compelling civil rights issue of our day, not to mention the profound spiritual implications of ministering to women and men in crisis and those struggling as Nancyjo did after the abortion.

At times is seems that only a cattle prod would provide adequate motivation for Congress to liberate America’s preborn children. Judges continue to usurp the right to life of nearly 60-million children and ignore the desperate need for legislative safeguards that protect the physical and emotional needs of women who have abortions.

Nancyjo, I understand your concern, but have an altogether different viewpoint of the movement. I’m more optimistic than I’ve ever been, and the late, great Dr. and Mrs. Willke shared my enthusiasm before their deaths.

In addition to the imagery of abortion’s victims, long-used by pro-lifers, ultrasound and vivid pictures of prenatal life have flung open the window to the womb for all to peer in. This undeniable evidence has turned many hearts and minds away from so-called choice to support LIFE.

The pro-life movement has become very media-savvy. We’re more sophisticated than the days of the Willke slide set, brochures and Handbook on Abortion.  Social media is fertile ground for creative pro-life videos and still visuals. Over the last few decades, pro-life websites have sprung up like dandelions in spring, offering educational information, motivation and direction to equip others to be ambassadors for the babies. Life Issues Institute’s website has over 5,000 pages of pro-life educational information from cloning to euthanasia.

Our half-hour weekly TV program, Facing Life Head-On ran for eight seasons and was the recipient of three Regional Emmy© Awards – the first time pro-life programming has been recognized on such a prestigious level. Nancyjo Mann was a guest in one episode. Our daily radio commentary, Life Issues, is heard on close to 1,200 outlets with a weekly listening audience of over four-million — actual listeners, not potential audience.

The viral videos revealing the sale of aborted baby body parts and other undercover investigations of Planned Parenthood have been instrumental in eroding their brand. A few short years ago the idea of taking away their tax funding was a pipe dream, but now it’s a realistic possibility.

Womens resource clinics and centers offer state-of-the-art medical services and information that empower women to say yes to life, even under the most difficult circumstances.

Click “like” if you are PRO-LIFE!

Never before have individual states elected more pro-life candidates and passed more life-saving legislation, which has left the other side reeling in disarray.

And then there’s America’s pro-life youth…

The contribution of talent and enthusiasm of our nation’s young people cannot be overstated. They have brought with them a boldness and professionalism that has been welcomed with open arms.

At 18, I was thankful for the Willke materials, but would have given my right arm for the technical resources and camaraderie enjoyed by today’s young pro-lifers. And they’re putting it to good use.

All of this and more causes me to truly believe that abortion is living on borrowed time, and instinctively, pro-abortion activists realize the same. But we won’t cross the finish line unless we work together, arm-in-arm to protect the most defenseless and vulnerable among us. And right now we’re experiencing the most promising time that I’ve seen in decades.

What are you doing today to help protect life? Your choices are almost endless.

Here is the episode of Facing Life Head On that featured Nancyjo’s story.

Silver Screen is rejecting ‘Gosnell’

Silver Screen is rejecting ‘Gosnell,’ but here’s a silver lining

December 5, 2016 (PregnancyHelpNews) — Hollywood may be too afraid to tell the truth about abortion, but the same doesn’t go for AlphaCare, a pro-life medical clinic set to relocate its services just a wall away from Gosnell’s former office this December.

AlphaCare’s move, slated for Dec. 19, will mark a significant step for the pregnancy center and two of its leaders—Karen Hess and Kim Bennett—who have been praying and planning to bring hope and healing to the neighborhood since 2011.

Having served women since 1981 within just a few miles of the Lancaster Ave. site it will now call home, AlphaCare is bringing its free ultrasounds, free pregnancy testing, options counseling, post-abortive healing, parenting education and more to many of the same women on whom Gosnell preyed for three decades.

A major impetus for Hess and Bennett—herself post-abortive—is to help women and families in the immediate area heal after so many years of oppression, and an estimated 40,000 lives lost through abortion.

“There is a darkness in what took place in that neighborhood and the impact of that business in that corner of the city,” Bennett told Pregnancy Help News in January. “To be able to go in there and begin to redeem it, even from our two row homes, is huge. It’s huge to be able to be a light in an area where there was so much darkness.”

Suppressing the “Controversial” Truths of Abortion and Murder

For over 30 years prior to his arrest and ensuing convictions in 2013—which included three guilty verdicts of murder in the first degree—Gosnell operated what one government investigator famously called a “House of Horrors.”

At Gosnell’s clinic, babies were not only routinely killed after they were born alive, but conditions were so unsanitary and medical attention so derelict that at least one woman, Karnamaya Mongar, died after a botched procedure at his clinic.

While media coverage of the trial and gruesome details uncovered in the investigation of Gosnell’s practice has been scant to say the least—a trend famously called out during the trial by syndicated columnist Kirsten Powers—Wednesday marked another milestone in the media’s ongoing blackout of the story.

As Mollie Hemingway pointed out this summer at The Federalist, one of the few reporters who covered the case from the courtroom tweeted, “Sat through a full day of testimony at the Kermitt (sic) Gosnell trial today. It is beyond the most morbid Hollywood horror. It will change you.”

In an email to supporters Wednesday, producers Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney announced that, after having shown their film to “every major distributor in Hollywood,” not one of those companies would agree to move forward on a deal, citing the “controversial” nature of the movie.

Starring Nick Searcy and Dean Cain, a record-breaking 30,000 individual supporters sponsored the entirety of the film’s $2.3 million-plus budget at Indiegogo.com. The producers had originally started a KickStarter.com campaign to raise the money, before that site censored their project.

The Best Film About Abortion Ever Made”

While McAleer told Breitbart News’ Daniel Nussbaum he is kept by non-disclosure agreements from telling which distributors refused to move forward with the film, test screenings “scored off the charts.”

Pro-life advocate David Daleiden, whose three-year undercover research revealed the abortion industry’s illegal underground market in the body parts of aborted babies in 2015, said it “is the best film about abortion ever made.”

Intentionally lacking any graphic scenes or unnecessary depictions, the film is rated PG-13, accomplishing a major goal of the production team to remove any legitimate obstacles to its release, per Nussbaum’s report.

“Hollywood’s refusal to distribute the Gosnell movie is a politically-motivated double standard because the Gosnell movie is a true story and it shines a negative spotlight on abortion,” the producers wrote in Wednesday morning’s email.

“But we are not going to give up. At every point in the story of Dr. Kermit Gosnell the establishment have tried to suppress the truth. They suppressed the truth when he was operating his house of horrors and killing women and children.”

McAleer and McElhinney are planning to release the film independently, and have released a book, “Gosnell: The Untold Story of America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer,” which available for pre-order at Amazon.comBarnes & Noble and Books a Million.

In the meantime—and for the long run—AlphaCare, which recently added a mobile ultrasound unit to its suite of services, is ready to write a new story in Philadelphia.

This August, a Christian social services agency that works closely with a local pregnancy center bought and converted an abortion clinic formerly owned by notorious abortionist James Pendergraft in Ocala, Fla.

Former abortion clinics turned into life-affirming pregnancy centers in recent years include two in Iowa—including one former Planned Parenthood clinic—two in Miami, one in Toledo, Ohio, and a former flagship Planned Parenthood building in Bryan, Texas, that now houses both 40 Days for Life and a pregnancy help medical clinic.

Truth is Always Greater than the Illusion of Truth

Christmas is in the air … and in shop windows … and in hotel lobbies. Wreathes decorate doors, Santa posters are everywhere, life size wooden reindeer grace front yards filled with cotton snow, and familiar Christmas hymns play in shops and restaurants.

That probably sounds like the same old, same old, that we see in American neighborhoods every year … except it isn’t.

All of this is happening in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam, a Communist and Buddhist country. Such decorations began to appear only four or five years ago, and they grow bigger and better each holiday season.

Of course, there is something missing from the decorations: there are no mangers, no creches, no Baby. The Birthday Boy is not part of the celebration.

As I have observed here first hand (and in the U.S.) the growing acceptance of Christmas without the Christ Child, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the acceptance of abortion in the U.S. In the nearly 43 year discussion about abortion, too often the human being with the most at stake – the innocent, defenseless baby – is left out of the picture.

Unborn babies are missing in slogans, such as the one that says, “Black Lives Matter.” The truth is, to the abortion industry, “Only Some Black Lives Matter.” The Black population is targeted by the abortion movement so that, for instance, in New York City more black babies are aborted than are born. Countrywide the percentage of abortions in the Black Community far outweighs the percentage of Blacks in the general population.

Unborn babies are missing in ads, such as the one that played worldwide at the time of the Conference on Climate Change that says: “The most important number you’ve never heard about is – 2 degrees.” (That is the aim of some for reducing the planet’s temperature by “2 degrees.”) The most important number most Americans have never heard about is that the population of the U.S. has been reduced by the abortion of more than 57 million unborn children since abortion was made legal in all 50 States in 1973.

Unborn babies are missing in common sense appeals to Americans that say, “If you see something, say something.” That is a wise reminder after the current terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernadino. However, if pro-lifers “say something” about the humanity of the unborn child, they are accused of racism, sexism, and, of denying women their constitutional right.

Unborn babies are missing in rhetoric, such as the so-called “War on Women.” It claims that any pro-life attempt to protect unborn children places an “undue burden” on women’s freedom and women’s choice. Yet, increasingly sex-selection abortions are performed with females chosen for destruction more often than are males.

Despite all of this, the Pro-Life movement has, indeed, “moved mountains.”

* The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) tell us that the number of abortions are continuing to drop–by 4.2% in 2012.

* The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a major abortion case — Whole Women’s Health v. Cole.

* The abortion rate has halved since 1974 according to the Centers for Disease Control.

* Pro-life legislators in the Congress have become more vocal and active in seeking change relating to abortions.

* Individual states have enacted over 200 regulations in the past four years alone which protect the well-being of women and recognize the ability of unborn children to experience pain.

* A large number of Republican presidential candidates are well-informed and outspoken on the life issues.

* Even our well-financed opposition concedes that younger Americans are more pro-life than ever before.

After nearly 43 years of legalized abortion, while the numbers have changed, the victims have changed, the procedures have changed, so, too, have millions of minds been changed by the work, witness and education of pro-life citizens in every state of the Union.

The evidence is in: Truth is always greater than the illusion of truth.
