by CureJoy Editorial

The growth of your baby is a continuous process that often conveys a sense of awe. The following information is divided into pregnancy’s three trimesters to help you understand your baby’s rapid growth. Milestones in fetal development are also highlighted. (Sizes and weights are approximate.)

Fetal development – month 1

First trimester

At the end of four weeks:

  • Baby is 1/4 inch long.
  • Heart, digestive system, backbone and spinal cord begin to form.
  • Placenta (sometimes called “afterbirth”) begins to develop.
  • The single fertilized egg is now 10,000 times larger than it was at conception.

Fetal development – month 2

First trimester

At the end of 8 weeks:

  • Baby is 1-1/8 inches long.
  • Heart is functioning.
  • Eyes, nose, lips, tongue, ears and teeth are forming.
  • Penis begins to appear in boys.
  • Baby is moving, although the mother can not yet feel movement.

Fetal development – month 3

First trimester

At the end of 12 weeks:

  • Baby is 2-1/2 to 3 inches long.
  • Weight is about 1/2 to 1 ounce.
  • Baby develops recognizable form.
  • Nails start to develop and earlobes are formed.
  • Arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet and toes are fully formed.
  • Eyes are almost fully developed.
  • Baby has developed most organs and tissues.
  • Baby’s heart rate can be heard at 10 weeks with a special instrument called a Doppler.

Fetal development – month 4

Second trimester

At the end of 4 months:

  • Baby is 6-1/2 to 7 inches long.
  • Weight is about 6 to 7 ounces.
  • Baby is developing reflexes, such as sucking and swallowing, and may begin sucking thumb.
  • Tooth buds are developing.
  • Sweat glands are forming on palms and soles.
  • Fingers and toes are well defined.
  • Gender is identifiable.
  • Skin is bright pink, transparent and covered with soft, downy hair.
  • Although recognizably human in appearance, the baby would not be able to survive outside the mother’s body.

Fetal development – month 5

Second trimester
At the end of 5 months:

  • Baby is 8 to 10 inches long.
  • Weight is about 1 pound.
  • Hair begins to grow on baby’s head.
  • Soft woolly hair called lanugo covers baby’s body. Some may remain until a week after birth when it is shed.
  • Mother begins to feel fetal movement.
  • Internal organs are maturing.
  • Eyebrows, eyelids and eyelashes appear.

Fetal development – month 6

Second trimester

At the end of 6 months:

  • Baby is 11 to 14 inches long.
  • Weight is about 1-3/4 to 2 pounds.
  • Eyelids begin to part and eyes open sometimes for short periods of time.
  • Skin is covered with protective coating called vernix.
  • Baby is able to hiccup.

Fetal development – month 7

Third trimester

At the end of 7 months:

  • Baby is 14 to 16 inches long.
  • Weight is about 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 pounds.
  • Taste buds have developed.
  • Fat layers are forming.
  • Organs are maturing.
  • Skin is still wrinkled and red.
  • If born at this time, the baby will be considered premature and require special care.

Fetal development – month 8

Third trimester

At the end of 8 months:

  • Baby is 16-1/2 to 18 inches long.
  • Weight is about 4 to 6 pounds.
  • Overall growth is rapid this month.
  • Tremendous brain growth occurs at this time.
  • Most body organs are now developed, except for the lungs.
  • Movements or “kicks” are strong enough to be visible from the outside.
  • Kidneys are mature.
  • Skin is less wrinkled.
  • Fingernails now extend beyond fingertips.

Fetal development – month 9

Third trimester

At the end of 9 months:

  • Baby is 19 to 20 inches long.
  • Weight is about 7 to 7-1/2 pounds.
  • The lungs are mature.
  • Baby is now fully developed and can survive outside the mother’s body.
  • Skin is pink and smooth.
  • The baby settles down lower in the abdomen to prepare for birth and may seem less active.

Ultrasound Law Gives Women Increased Information

Ultrasound Law Under Attack by Planned Parenthood Gives Women Increased Information

What Is Planned Parenthood So Afraid of?

Hologram ultrasoundINDIANAPOLIS –Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky (PPINK) and the American Civil Liberties Union is seeking an injunction against the requirement in the Dignity for the Unborn Law that specifies women receive an ultrasound at least 18 hours before an abortion. Obama-appointed federal judge, Tanya Walton Pratt, is hearing arguments in Indianapolis.

PPINK filed a lawsuit this summer against the ultrasound requirement. At the time, PPINK admitted it only had ultrasound equipment at four of its then-23 locations around the state. In contrast, there are more than 50 ultrasound machines at pregnancy resource centers around the state providing free services to pregnant women.

The ultrasound machines at pregnancy resource centers have been purchased by gifts from thousands of Hoosiers who care deeply about women and their health, and who believe women deserve to be truly informed about their pregnancies.

“The 18-hour ultrasound requirement gives women more information about their health and pregnancy before they have an abortion,” said Mike Fichter, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. “Planned Parenthood should support the ideal that women have increased information. What is Planned Parenthood so afraid of?”

Fichter continued, “Is Planned Parenthood afraid that more abortion-minded women will choose life after seeing an ultrasound of their developing child? Is Planned Parenthood afraid that women will not be able to forget hearing the heartbeat of their child? Is Planned Parenthood afraid that giving women time between seeing their child and having the abortion will cut into their profits? The chilling answer to all these questions is ‘yes.’ Planned Parenthood cares more about itself than women.”

The Abortion Movement Just Lost The War On The Unborn

URGENT: Call on President-elect Trump to keep his pro-life promises! Sign the petition now.

November 9, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – On the campaign trail, Donald Trump often said, “I’m going to make every dream you ever dreamed about your country come true.”

The “dream” of pro-lifers has been an America where the scourge of abortion is no more. That’s why they voted for Trump in overwhelming numbers, returning a pro-life majority in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

Come next January, when Donald Trump is sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, a pro-life majority will be seated in the House and the Senate.

Now the American people rarely give the same political party control over the House, the Senate, and the White House. But that is exactly the happy situation that, thank God, we find ourselves in now.

For the first time since 1928, Republicans—we should really say the Party of Life–will control both the executive and the legislative branches of government.

The long stalemate between the Party of Abortion and the Party of Life is now over, and things should begin to move in our direction come January. I expect a number of legislative remedies to our national tragedy of abortion to emerge from the Congress and the White House.

I say this because our new President is a builder, and he prides himself that his projects come in under budget and ahead of schedule.  So I believe that he will quickly move to keep the promises that he made to us during the campaign.

  • Trump will ask the House and Senate leadership to send him legislation defunding Planned Parenthood. Once this is signed, the abortion giant, which has killed over 7,000,000 babies since Roe v. Wade and which spent $38 million in a vain effort to elect Hillary Clinton, will no longer be on the receiving end of federal funding. Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars will no longer flow into Planned Parenthood’s coffers. The loss of roughly 40% of its annual revenue will surely slow down the killing.
  • Trump will also back the passage of legislation banning abortions after 20 weeks.  He has pledged to sign the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which will save tens of thousands of lives each year.
  • Trump has also pledged to “repeal and replace” Obamacare. With its demise will go hundreds of burdensome regulations, including those that brought the Little Sisters of the Poor and other plaintiffs to the federal courts to seek relief from its abortion mandates.
  • With Trump’s support, I also expect the Mexico City policy, first passed by President Reagan in 1984, to be written into permanent law. This will require that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that receive federal funding to certify that they will not perform, promote, or lobby for the legalization of abortion in other countries.
  • We will also, again with Trump’s support, be able to permanently defund the UN Population Fund.  The UN’s population control arm has been a cheerleader of China’s program of forced abortions and sterilizations from the beginning. We should have no part of it.

There are two potential roadblocks to this rosy scenario.  The first is the Senate tradition of filibustering.  Sixty votes are required under the current Senate rules to invoke “cloture” and bring legislation to a vote. So pro-lifers will need to keep pressure on potential holdouts throughout the legislative process.

The second is the federal judiciary, including the Supreme Court, which Obama has sought to pack with justices like Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. They insist that the law is merely a “social construct,” and that they can “reconstruct” it in almost any way they want.

The Founders would be uniformly horrified to think that their treasured Constitution has been used to justify abortion. It is a great irony that leftwing justices, arguing that the Constitution is a “living document,” have bizarrely turned it into a writ to kill.

That brings us to the most important campaign promise of all, which President-elect Trump has repeated dozens of times on the campaign trail: “I will appoint justices like Antonin Scalia to the Supreme Court.”

The list of potential justices, some 20 strong, has already been drawn up.  I believe that the nomination will be made quickly once he takes office.  This will restore balance to the court, and ensure that the hundreds of pro-life laws that have been passed by state legislatures stay on the books. Laws mandating waiting periods, counseling, ultrasounds and, in the case of minors, parental consent have done a tremendous amount of good.

What happens after that depends entirely upon the health of the Supreme Court justices.  Sooner or later, another elderly justice—perhaps Ruth Bader Ginsburg or David Souter—will decide to step down.

This will create an opportunity for President Trump to nominate another justice or two.  Once a solid pro-life majority is in place, the terrible injustice visited upon us by the Supreme Court in 1973 will be no more.  Roe v. Wade will be decisively overturned.

The issue of abortion will be sent back to the states, most of which have laws protecting Life already on the books.

All of this sounds very good, some will say, but can we trust Trump to keep his word?

In the aftermath of a long and vicious political campaign, one in which Trump’s opponent relentlessly attacked his character, I do not think it is an unreasonable question.

But I would say that the American people, on November 8th, did not just elect Donald Trump, they elected Vice President Mike Pence, Governor Mike Huckabee, Dr. Ben Carson, Father Frank Pavone, and Marjorie Dannenfelser, and all of the dozens of fine individuals who campaigned with him and for him.

He is a visionary leader who has built a tremendously successful business over the decades by hiring talented people, developing a shared plan, and then unleashing them to carry it out. That’s what real leaders do, and I believe that he will do the same thing as president.

A long time ago, Abraham Lincoln remarked that America’s Founders put slavery on the path to ultimate extinction. With the election of Donald Trump and Mike Pence, I believe that modern-day Americans have put abortion on the path to ultimate extinction.

Thanks to the wisdom of the American people, we now have a generational opportunity to fulfill the promise of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness to all Americans, including the unborn.

COLUMBUS, Ohio–In a historic upset, Donald J. Trump and Governor Mike Pence were elected President and Vice President of the United States last night. U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) soundly defeated pro-abortion Ted Strickland, 58-37, with the Associated Press calling the race just after the polls closed in Ohio. Pro-life Republicans retained majority control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Defying expectations, pro-life Republicans not only maintained control of the Ohio House and the Ohio Senate, they picked up one seat in each chamber. In all, 90 percent of Ohio Right to Life PAC-endorsed and preferred candidates won their elections.
“After 8 years of a pro-abortion presidency that has brought us disastrous policies that undermine the dignity of the human person, pro-life Ohioans are celebrating the election of Donald Trump and Governor Mike Pence,” said Mike Gonidakis, president of Ohio Right to Life. “Despite the millions of dollars that Planned Parenthood invested in Ohio, voters soundly rejected corporate abortion and its radical political scheme. Together, we put a stop to the pro-abortion policies of Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party. Ohio Right to Life looks forward to supporting federal pro-life initiatives that protect the human person’s first right, the right to life.”

With pro-life gains in the Ohio General Assembly, Ohio Right to Life looks forward to continuing to work for increased protections for human life in Ohio. In the last six years of pro-life leadership in the state, Ohio Right to Life has successfully advocated for the enactment of 17 pro-life laws. During that same time, abortions have decreased 25 percent. As the 131st General Assembly comes to a close, Ohio Right to Life now looks forward to advocating for the final passage and enactment of two legislative initiatives: (1.) the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would ban abortions when babies can feel pain at 20 weeks; (2.) the Unborn Child Dignity Act, which would require the humane burial or cremation of aborted children.

“On behalf of our board, our staff and our statewide membership, Ohio Right to Life offers our sincere congratulations to our slate of bipartisan pro-life candidates who won election last night,” said Gonidakis. “Your work to protect and defend the unborn, the disabled, the elderly and all vulnerable persons remains the most significant and noble aspect of your public service.”

Congratulations to the following candidates who won their elections last night:

U.S. Senate – Rob Portman
OH Supreme Court – Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor
OH Supreme Court – Judge Pat DeWine
OH Supreme Court – Judge Pat Fischer

Vote Pro-Life

Ohio Right to Life

Friend —

In the last 6 years, with pro-life leadership at the helm, Ohio has witnessed a whopping 25% reduction in abortions! Our pro-life leaders have enacted 17 pro-life laws, including our Late-term Abortion Ban and the de-funding of Planned Parenthood, and HALF of Ohio’s abortion facilities have closed or curtailed their abortion services.

We know that voting pro-life has life-saving consequences, and we MUST ensure that we continue this trend, not only here in Ohio, but across the country. Tragically, across the United States, over 1 million children continue to be aborted each year. According to the Guttmacher Institute, Planned Parenthood’s research arm, 1.06 million abortions occurred in the United States in 2011.

We know that Hillary Clinton’s pro-abortion agenda will be an aggressive, radical expansion of Barack Obama’s policies over the last 8 years. We simply CANNOT give another 4 years to a pro-abortion President.

Join us in voting for Donald J. Trump and the rest of our pro-life candidates tomorrow, November 8!

Donald Trump has made multiple promises to the pro-life movement, including the nomination of pro-life Supreme Court Justices AND the de-funding of Planned Parenthood on a national level.

Hillary Clinton has promised the OPPOSITE. She has promised to nominate pro-abortion justices and to REPEAL the Hyde amendment, forcing pro-lifers like us to DIRECTLY PAY for abortions up until the moment of birth!

Every one of these promises should disqualify ANY candidate from our consideration.
