Politically Incorrect Medicine

Politically Incorrect Medicine

ProlifeONGYNSBy Kelsey Hazzard Editor’s note. This appeared today at secularprolife.org.

Last week, three physicians were scheduled to give presentations at a Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA) meeting in Seoul. When they arrived, they learned that their presentations had been cancelled. Why? Because the three female doctors–ob/gyns Dr. Donna Harrison and Dr. Mary Davenport, and psychiatrist Dr. Martha Shuping– had prepared presentations on risks of abortion.

MWIA’s press release emphasizes that the presentations were censored because their conclusions were politically incorrect. The title of the press release is “MWIA is proud to stand for women’s rights.” It “regrets” that MWIA invited presenters “who would deny women their basic right to choice.” For good measure, it throws in some slander, stating that the speakers’ presentations– which were to summarize recent studies from such esteemed journals as the Journal of Reproductive Medicine, BJOG, PLoS ONE, and numerous others– have “no scientific merit.”

The real motivation is clear: these speakers were censored for daring to share data that might show that abortion has downsides for women.

St. Teresa of Avila Wrote This Roughly 500 Years Ago

St. Teresa of Avila wrote this roughly 500 years ago, it has special meaning for us today:

Christ has no body but yours.  No hands, no feet on earth but yours.
Yours are the eyes with which He looks with compassion on this world.
Yours are the feet with which He walks to do good.
Yours are the hands with which He blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are His body.
Christ has no body now but yours.

St. Teresa’s words are especially true for me and you.  God has called us to be His mouth and speak out in defense of His innocent unborn children.  He has called us to be His hands protecting them, and His feet marching for life and standing vigil outside abortion clinics.  He has called us to do as He did and give our bodies to the work of defending them.  He has no body on this earth but ours.

Let us give Him our entire selves in the glorious work of ending abortion.

Thank you.  And know that in loving appreciation for all you do for Priests for Life and the youngest members of our human family, I remember you at every Mass I offer; as do all the priests of Priests for Life.  May God bless you.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Those Pink Sneakers

If I see those pink sneakers one more time, I am going to scream.

Yes, the abortion industry has found their new poster child: Wendy Davis, the state senator who spent 13 hours filibustering a common ground limit to abortion after 20 weeks in Texas.

She’s been showered with glowing praise from the media for her defense of unlimited abortion on demand. Now the pro-abortion lobby is taking her around the country for fundraising, proclaiming that women “Stand With Wendy.”

The thing is – women actually don’t stand with Wendy.

Every poll confirms that the majority of women support protecting late-term babies after 20 weeks gestation, if not before. In fact, some of the polls reveal that women support the protection of unborn children from the torture of late-term abortions at levels over 60 percent – even more than men.

But if you ask Wendy about these poll numbers, like The Weekly Standard reporter John McCormack did yesterday, she says that she knows better than us!

TWS: What do you make of polls showing that a majority of women support these late-term bans? There have been a few polls–Washington Post, Huffington Post, different polls–that show women support this. What do you think of those polls?

DAVIS: I again think that a lot of people don’t really understand the landscape of what’s happening…

, it’s Wendy Davis who doesn’t understand – or chooses to ignore – the “meat market style of assembly line abortions” going on in our nation. She doesn’t really understand – or is ignoring – the late-term babies that are being brutally killed and the women being maimed inside disgusting Gosnell-style abortion clinics in Texas, Delaware, Alabama, and elsewhere.

The abortion industry will claim that Wendy Davis stands for all women, but you and I know that isn’t true. Instead of standing for women, Wendy stands for the merchants of death that destroy the lives of innocent children and hurt women.

We can’t let this happen. The Gosnell trial shattered the false image of abortionists and their clinics across the nation – the gruesome testimony exposed the truth. But now, the abortion industry is trying to use someone like Wendy Davis to make abortion “cool” again.

Help us make sure the abortion industry doesn’t change the debate. Women don’t stand with Wendy. We stand with Semika Shaw and Jennifer McKenna Morbelli, just two of the women who were killed by horrifically unsafe practices in American abortion clinics. We stand with the thousands of unborn baby girls that are killed by abortionists every year.

These slain women can’t stand up for themselves – that’s why you and I need to speak for them and stand against Wendy Davis and her glamorizing of unfettered abortion on demand. Will you stand with us today?

Thank you,

California Billionaire Environmentalist Targets Ken Cuccinelli

California billionaire environmentalist targets Ken Cuccinelli for defeat

Kirsten Andersen Mon Aug 05 18:36 EST Abortion

RICHMOND, VA, August 5, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Ken Cuccinelli, the unabashedly conservative Republican candidate for governor of Virginia, has been targeted for defeat by Tom Steyer, a California-based billionaire and environmentalist activist. Steyer has announced his political organization will finance ad campaigns, get-out-the-vote efforts, and new media ventures designed to take Cuccinelli down in the most watched off-year election in the nation.

Tom Steyer

Tom Steyer

Victoria Cobb, president of the Virginia-based The Family Foundation, told LifeSiteNews.com in February that with Virginia in the spotlight, Cuccinelli will need his grassroots supporters to dig deep to have any chance of winningagainst McAuliffe’s well-oiled, well-fueled political machine.

That out-of-state pressure “should serve as a reminder of just how important this year’s elections in Virginia are going to be. Because only Virginia has a potentially competitive statewide race, national interest groups are going to spend millions of dollars to influence the outcome,” said Cobb.

Ken Cuccinelli's opponents have deep-pocketsCuccinelli’s strong pro-life credentials – he voted to overturn then-Democratic Governor Mark Warner’s veto of the partial birth abortion ban, drafted the state’s parental consent law, led efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, and insisted the state’s abortion facilities meet the same health standards as other surgical centers – pro-abortion leaders have taken a particular interest in the race.

Hacking of Medical Devices: A New Worry

Hacking of Medical Devices: A New Worry for Patients, Disabled

Fund Research Based on Ethics

Not Wrong to Fund Research Based on Ethics

Dr. Mariusz Z. RatajczakBy Wesley J. Smith The embryonic stem cell and human cloning research debates are not “science” arguments, but rather, disputes over proper ethics in the pursuit of science. Supporters of ESCR think it isn’t wrong to destroy embryos for use in research. Opponents disagree and also suggest that it would be great if ways were found to obtain the scientific benefits of embryo-based technologies without the destruction–or in cloning’s case, manufacture and destruction–of nascent human life.

PEDOPHILE GROUP SEEKS SAME RIGHTS AS HOMOSEXUALS

Pedophile support group seeks ‘truth and dignity’ – Want same rights as homosexuals

BY GINA MILLER

  • Fri Aug 02, 2013 14:35 EST

August 2, 2013 (Renewamerica.com) – Who could’ve seen this coming? Well, those of us who can see the “logical” end results of the radical homosexual movement, that’s who. With homosexual activists on the march throughout our government, military, schools and society in general, many of us have warned that their push for special “rights” would – besides trample on the freedoms of speech, religion and association of those who oppose them – inevitably lead to demands by other sexual deviants, like pedophiles, for their own societal affirmation.

Protecting Ohio Women’s Health

Protecting Ohio Women’s Health

I thought you would find interesting the following Editorial issued during this past weekend by The Intelligencer praising Ohio for passing such strong pro-life laws.  Notice how the Editorial Board makes a point to highlight all of the health violations at these clinics.  Below, please find a link to the Editorial as well the actual written Editorial.  Thank you.

Protecting Ohio Women’s Health

August 3, 2013

By THE INTELLIGENCER , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

New Ohio regulations on abortion clinics are a “war on women’s health,” the head of a pro-abortion group claimed last week. She and other activists have expressed concern that two of the state’s 13 licensed abortion clinics closed this year and another may shut down soon.

Abortion activists attempt to disguise their agenda by claiming they are defending women against risks to their health. If they are being honest, they should be applauding closure of the two clinics, in Toledo and Cuyahoga Falls.

State Health Department inspectors visited the Center for Choice in Toledo earlier this year, before it closed. Among violations they found were failure to combat infections and keep operating room equipment clean. Some of the equipment was rusty and had mold growing on it. Containers full of expired medicine were spotted. So were blank prescription forms already signed by a doctor. Finally, inspectors found 44 syringes loaded with a clear but unidentified liquid.

Inspectors also went to the Capital Care Network abortion clinic in Cuyahoga Falls earlier this year. There, they found the facility’s state and federal licenses to dispense medicine had expired. They also learned some patients’ vital signs were not checked before procedures were performed – and that informed consent was not obtained before some abortions were performed. The clinic closed soon after it was inspected.

It would appear some abortion clinics have been waging a “war on women’s health.”

Yet groups such as Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio continue to fight rules that threaten any abortion clinic.

For too long, so-called “pro-choice” advocates have browbeaten public policy makers – and even health departments – into giving abortion clinics free passes to disobey rules intended to safeguard women. Philadelphia abortion Dr. Kermit Gosnell got away with murder for years because of such neglect.

Ohio legislators and public health officials appear to have decided they have been cowed long enough by those more interested in keeping abortion mills open than in the well-being of women. That change is long overdue – and will be welcomed by thoughtful Ohioans.

Media All Over Komen But Ignoring Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid Fraud

Media Was All Over Komen Story But Ignoring Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid Fraud
In the first week of February 2012, the Big Three networks lunged to the defense of Planned Parenthood when the Susan G. Komen Foundation (very temporarily) withdrew its donation to abortion giant (about $680,000 the previous year). Network reporters whacked Komen, promoting “outrage and disappointment engulfing the Internet.”.

But Mollie Hemingway of Get Religion pointed out that Planned Parenthood in Texas was recently forced to pay the state of Texas $4.3 million for Medicaid fraud. Where was the “outrage and disappointment” engulfing the media? The networks didn’t notice. Even the local newspaper coverage was terrible.

Alliance Defending Freedom’s recent analysis of state and federal audits of family planning programs suggests that in 12 states, Planned Parenthood affiliates overbilled Medicaid for more than $8 million. One federal audit of New York’s Medicaid family planning program reported that certain providers, “especially Planned Parenthoods,” had engaged in improper practices resulting in overpayment.

Slashing Benefits to Avoid Obama Health Law So-Called Cadillac Tax

Many Companies Begin Slashing Benefits to Avoid Obama Health Law So-Called Cadillac Tax, Signaling the Beginning of Broader Cuts for All Plans

Pro-abortion President Barack ObamaBy Jennifer Popik, JD, Robert Powell Center for Medical Ethics As companies are planning their benefits for the coming year, one controversial part of the 2010 Obama Health Care Law (“ObamaCare”) is again making headlines.

Why might the plans become few and far between? Starting in 2018, there will be a 40% tax on generous employee benefits, on the theory that overly generous plans boost medical costs. The anticipation of this tax is already beginning to have an effect on the plans companies offer.

This so-called “Cadillac Tax” provision does not stand in isolation from the remainder of the 2010 health care law.  At the heart of the law is the notion that health care costs rise too fast and that if Americans would just spend less money on health care, then the whole system would somehow benefit.

There is serious concern that soon these plans will be extinct. And as we shall see below, although routinely vilified, the loss of these plans would be very hurtful.
