Atheists, agnostics, pagans, and more: a place in the pro-life movement

My goal as a Christian should be to bring Christ to everyone I meet. How best should I do that? By yelling Bible verses through a megaphone? By handing out pamphlets? By excluding them from the Godly work of protecting Life?I’ve shared my conversion story with Live Action readers and in The American Feminist, the magazine of Feminists for Life of America, so I won’t rehash it again. But allow me to reiterate that had my lovely friend, with whom I chose to debate abortion one fateful night, used religion as a basis for her argument, I not only would not have been convinced, I would have dismissed her entire thesis outright and probably ended the conversation.

Would I have been, frankly, an idiot for doing so? That is debatable. (By which I mean: yeah, kind of.) But I would also not have become, that very night, a pro-life advocate.

I was converted on the basis of human rights, science, and reason. Was God behind it? In my opinion, yes, He was. He is always behind Truth. I believe God created human rights, science, and reason. So using these to argue is not terribly different from mentioning Him by name.

Some helpful ideas on how to tell family and friends you are no longer pro-abortion but pro-life

By Dave Andrusko

improlifeWe probably don’t write as often as we should at National Right to Life News Today about something we are ecstatic over when it happens: when someone sheds their pro-abortion garments and puts on pro-life garb.

What made me think of that was a post at Live Action News written by Kristen Hatten. She made a number of interesting points about how you can break the news that you’ve become pro-life, particularly to people with whom you previously shared a commitment to “abortion rights.” Before we quickly summarize her suggestions, I’d like to quote from an early paragraph:

Peer-Reviewed Study: Abortion is Not Safer for Women Than Childbirth

Peer-Reviewed Study: Abortion is Not Safer for Women Than Childbirth
How often do you hear a child disposal apologist repeat the talking point that abortion is safer for the mother than childbirth?

The truth is, their self-serving odes to evidence have always been a lie. The defense of abortion is built on lying about virtually every factual question the issue contains—what the embryo biologically is, whether there’s evidence for fetal pain, what happened to women without legal abortion, what the Constitution says about abortion, how crisis pregnancy centers treat women, how the percentages of Planned Parenthood services actually break down, whether “respectable” pro-abortion institutionsenable the criminal ones, whether abortion carries risks to physical and mental health, whether abortion restrictions are effective, and more.

So while abortion may not be safer than childbirth, to be fair, there is more evidence for that claim than for the claim that abortion defenders have scruples.

WOMEN SPEAK OUT VIRGINIA PAC

Women
Speak Out
Pro-life Friend-

Virginia matters!

You may not live there, but Virginia should be as important to YOU as it is to me. Virginia is the battleground where we show that life is a winning issue.

There are only two elections this year – and if we lose the only competitive race in the nation between a strong pro-life leader and a radical pro-abortion candidate, it will have serious consequences for both the 2014 midterms and the presidential race in 2016.

On Monday, the National Review Online did a great job hitting all of the important points of why this race matters nationally:

Pro-life Friend, the nation is starting to focus on Virginia. It’s the test for the elections to come: Will Americans support a pro-life candidate? Were the amazing strides the pro-life movement made this summer just a “flash in the pan”?

Right now, the media is saying that pro-life issues don’t matter to elections.

They’ve seen the fundraising gap: Terry McAuliffe – who supports abortion on-demand right up to birth – is actually leading Cuccinelli by almost 2 to 1 when it comes to fundraising.

We’ve got to fight back.

We can’t a pro-abortion leader like Hillary Clinton use Virgina to kick-start her presidential campaign. That’s why at Women Speak Out – Virginia, we are all in for this race. We’ve committed to fundraising 250,000 dollars for Ken. It’s a lot, but we know it’s what Ken needs to overcome the abortion industry and the Clinton election machine.

Please donate to Women Speak Out – VA. Help us remind the nation that life is a winning issue.

For Life,

Emily Buchanan

Why the Cuccinelli vs. McAuliffe Race Matters to You, Even If You Don’t Live in Virginia

First, does anyone want to argue that Ken Cuccinelli — Virginia’s attorney general, and current GOP candidate for governor — is not a conservative?

  • Led the legal challenge to Obamacare.
  • Defended Arizona’s immigration enforcement statute.
  • Filed legal challenges to the EPA’s findings on greenhouse gases’ being a threat to human health and thus an emission they have the authority to regulate.
  • Supports right to life from conception until death, supported and pushed several pro-life bills while in the state legislature.
  • Endorsed by the NRA.

We can examine his record further, but that gives you the gist.

Anita Lopez Endorsed by Pro-Choice PAC, Emily’s List

Anita Lopez Endorsed by Pro-Choice PAC, Emily’s List

Toledo mayoral candidate raises suspicion as America’s pro-life voice grows

“Anita is opposed to any actions that limit access to reproductive health care for women.”

Today’s Toledo Blade showcases the recent endorsement of Anita Lopez, a mayoral candidate for Toledo, by Emily’s List, a national abortion rights PAC that seeks to elect pro-choice Democratic women to office. Lopez has picked up the pro-choice endorsement as Toledo verges on closing its last abortion clinic, thereby restoring life to the city.

Lopez appears to be treading carefully around the recent endorsement, and for good reason. Multiple polls this year alone have shown that more and more Americans are supporting pro-life policies. As America’s pro-choice voice diminishes, the Lopez team is seeming to send mixed messages on the pro-choice group’s endorsement:

According to the Blade, Lopez’s line went dead after the newspaper asked her about the endorsement. She could not be reached for comment afterward.

Furthermore, while Diane May, a spokeswoman for Lopez, told the Blade that she is “honored by the group’s endorsement,” she declined to detail the content of the Emily’s List questionnaire that Lopez completed in her application for the endorsement.

May also told the Blade, “Anita is opposed to any actions that limit access to reproductive health care for women.

According to the Blade, Anita Lopez, who would be Toledo’s first Latina mayor, is Catholic, as well as an “active church-goer.”

As Toledo’s first Latina mayor and a practicing Catholic, Anita Lopez would undoubtedly be out of touch with the 53 percent of Hispanic Catholics who say that abortion should be illegal in all or most cases.

Lopez’s spokesman says that Lopez is opposed to “any” restrictions on a woman’s access to “reproductive health care,” a phrase often used in place of “abortion.”

One has to wonder whether Lopez is so extreme as to even oppose late-term abortion restrictions, or even the 20 week ban that a majority of Americans, especially women, support.

If so, Lopez has nothing to gain from talking too openly about her abortion politics in pro-life America.

Pregnancy Care Centers Under Attack

Pro-life Friend –

Have you ever supported a Pregnancy Care Center?

They are incredible. The compassion, care, and dedication that volunteers pour into our nation’s most vulnerable expecting mothers rebuilds families and saves lives.

But right now Pregnancy Care Centers are under attack from the abortion lobby. They are releasing “undercover footage” that attack the beliefs of volunteers who distribute food, clothing, and diapers to expecting mothers who have nowhere else to turn.

I was speechless until I found out who was behind this smear campaign: NARAL.

NARAL is desperate. They haven’t been relevant for years. They tried to claw back into the spotlight by attacking the Susan B. Anthony List. When that failed, they turned to smear the most compassionate wing of our movement.

To a radical group like NARAL, Pregnancy Care Centers look like an easy target. They often run on shoestring budgets and, politically, cannot defend themselves.

But with your help, the Susan B. Anthony List can.

We want a fight. I will gladly swing back, and hard, to defend these pro-life champions.

Please donate today. We have to defend Pregnancy Care Centers and make sure that everyone recognizes NARAL’s baseless attack as a last-ditch effort to get attention.

For life,

Marjorie Dannenfelser
